Description
Waypoints (0)

The river crossing on the trail may not be possible, or very dangerous, if water is being released from the dam. This is not the typical Chalk Ridge Hike. First part of the trail is overgrown in Spring/Summer, but the Boy Scouts are busy improving the trail. For a long time, the area on the north side of the river has been a well kept secret, but is seeing more foot traffic now. Please note there is a steep bank at river crossing.

Boring, lots of trash along the highway and not very well marked.

The trail itself was just okay, but the falls made it worth it. Difficult to follow at times (would not recommend following my recording, haha). Came on a Saturday, the first day of spring, and it was moderately trafficked. We got the very last parking spot. I read previous reviews and didn’t do the part of the trail near the road.

don't do this loop. a lot of the route has you walking on the road and it's exactly what I didn't hope for when I wanted to "get in the woods".

The trail was pretty until I got to the shot paved section. People were driving cars 80 mph on the trail!!

The loop north of the water is great. It’s pretty well maintained and easy to follow. It ends in a pretty decent drop off with lots of cacti at the bottom that you have to traverse if you want to continue on. But there’s a little turn around loop if you prefer on to do that. The falls themselves were pretty busy, but I was basically alone on the loops. The south loop however leaves a lot to be desired. You’re supposed to walk along a highway for more than a quarter mile... far less than ideal. I would recommend doing the north loop then just taking the normal trail back.

This trail is has been cleared in the wooded path area. The fields and along the road have the knee high field grass but no issue. So definitely recommend wearing pants. The river crossing wasn't too bad, check the pics uploaded for paths and consider the most likely place to traverse. Conquered with no issues and didn't get wet. Overall, it's moderate due to the river cross and sections that are rocky and steady incline. The suspension bridge is by far the best part and oh the boars on the trail in the first wooded area.

Based on reviews didn't walk along the trial, instead went straight up the river bed away from the falls. Was wonderful to walk along in late September, cool water, easy to pass most places, a couple of fun spots up on the rocks and the steep banks, great views of natural falls out of the bluffs.
