Blue Jay, Anthills, and Quail Trail Loop is a 4.8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Houston, Texas that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This trail starts on the Blue Jay Trail, heading south along the Buffalo Bayou. The route eventually links up with the Anthills Trail, on the south bank of the Buffalo Bayou. This is a single track mountain biking route. Eventually, this route crosses over Buffalo Bayou on a bridge, and then links up with the Quail Trail. This is a paved path often used by runners and road bikers. Then the route returns to the parking lot. If you'd like to extend this loop, there are multiple opportunities to cross north over Buffalo Bayou on a bridge.
A nice trail along the bayous. The north side is paved. The south side of the bayou is natural. Muddy in places a day after the rain, but nice. Can be extended along the bayou for Mike’s if you want to have a longer hike.
Great weather lots of paths to take, paved the whole way which is nice
Trail was decent! I wasn’t sure how to navigate the different trails. Lots of cycling!
This trail is tragically easy. I ran (as in: On foot) the mountain bike portion of it, and the only way it would be anything close to moderate is if you were on a road bike. Half of this is dirt, the other half is paved or you can run next to the pavement on the hard packed grass. A decent amount of shade, thankfully because Texas heat and humidity, even mid November, is disgusting. Did I mention the stinky river? It’s gross. SUPER BUSY.
Shady in most parts, however you had to hop onto the pavement at a few spots due to some drop offs and drainage pipes.
Hard to stay on the trail as defined by the app, bur AWESOME and totally recommend.
Beautiful trail, with lots of bayou views and a mix of paved and unpaved portions. Watch for bikes.
It was pretty good overall! By the time we got to the car, we were exhausted! Lol. We didn’t do alllll the hidden trails, stuck to the map thennnn dozed off to the other ones that looked more fun but overall it was fun. Super hot, started at 640p, ended back at the car around 830ish, We only took a water bottle each, nxt time we’ll take more. Probably the bikes too! Lol. Can’t wait to explore the rest of the trails. Definitely a mixture of hikers, joggers, & bikers. We enjoyed it.
Great ride! Used a mix of riding on the paved path and dirt trails. Found a couple of advanced trails I wasn’t ready for but I will be back to explore some more.
Great trail for anyone including with a dog. The beginning is a little confusing since the map shows that you can walk down along the water but the trail seems unused and there’s a couple spots with trees completely covering the trial. I’d stay up on the paved trail at the beginning. The second half after crossing the bayou is much more busy as it runs along the back of a neighborhood.
This is a nice, easy trail that mostly hides the noise from the nearby busy streets. The trail hugs Buffalo Bayou for about half of it, but you can venture through the brush to walk alongside it if you wish. True to the name, we saw several blue jays, cardinals, and bunnies. The trail was paved the while way. However, the city has closed the south side of the trail, which looked a lot quieter and more interesting. We didn’t see any signage for this, just fencing. So this is now an out-and-back trail.
