Balcones Canyonlands Indiangrass Trail is a 3.6 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Marble Falls, Texas that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October.
Really enjoyed this park. All total we did a little over five miles today. The initial trail was challenging (got my heart rate up) but after that it was gorgeous. I'd hike the Indiangrass trials again for the sheer beauty of it. The Rimrock trail has a few steep incline spots but other parts of the Rimrock trail and the the other trails in the park are pretty easy. Ensure you bring lots of water, sunscreen, and bug spray. FYI, the park says no pets but I felt comfortable bringing my puppers. They are well trained and I clean up after them. Also, there are no trashcans anywhere so ensure you are prepared to take all trash with you. The trails are pristine and that just adds to the natural beauty.
Went w/ a friend. Beautiful wildflowers and has some shade. I used my hat so bring it. Glad we went there when it’s warm & breezy. Good exercise as it has some uphills to walk on. We agreed it would be one time bcz we wanna visit other trails. You ll enjoy this one.
Did both RimRock and IndianGrass trails. Weather was perfect and easy trail with great views from top. Saw a lot of wildflowers.
Lovely hilly trail with more trees and shade than Quarry Canyon Trail, which you have to take to get up to Vista Knoll Trail.
Beautiful part of “Hill Country” in Texas. Nice mixture of shady woods, and exposed scrublands.
Hiked this trail on 3/17/21, great trail, easy to follow, spring flowers are starting to bloom and are beautiful! We think our daughter lost her water bottle on the trail. It’s a blue/green camelback with lots of vacation stickers on it. If you see it please contact us at 812-327-7780. Thanks so much! Enjoy the great trail!
We hiked this trail and thank you to all those who left reviews advising sunscreen. Also, we went as a family and are not the most educated in hiking and took off on the Boulder trail rather than the correct trail leading to the Indian Grass Trail. Please do not make the same mistake. We enjoyed the hike but I can’t imagine doing this hike in the summer during the Texas heat.,
Typical hill country landscape. Make sure you wear good shoes - lots of rocks. The narrow trail made it difficult to hike side-by-side. Lots of open/sunny areas, with some shaded parts on the trail. No big, climactic view, but there were a couple lookouts along the trail.
Best day ever. Lots of elevation today and the Indian Paint Brushes are out!
Nice hike - recorded 525 elevation. Diverse terrain, well-marked trails. Be sure to wear hat and/or sunscreen!
Lots of varying terrain. Beautiful views! Some trails were closed but still a great day hike.
Went a couple months ago and it’s a really interesting mix of scenery. Conditions were hazy due to a few days of wind getting dust hanging in the air. The top of the hill has somewhat recently had a controlled burn so the top makes it seem like you’re stepping into another world from the start of the trail.
Today I embarked on what I call the Balcones 2000, where my goal is to push for 2000 feet in elevation on my hike. Today I took the main hill to the left and around the backside to the Indiangrass loop and back down the other hill where I’d hit a point and turn around to head back up 8 times. It’s a great way to challenge yourself if you love to climb and need some burn in your legs.
Fabulous hill country hike. Although difficulty is listed as moderate It can be managed as easy if you ascend up the rim rock trail via the clockwise direction at the trailhead. Make your loop at the hilltop and avoid the steep descent for those who may be concerned. For an easy hike, take rimrock to the left at trailhead, ascend up to the top over a fairly rocky trail to the top, continue to Shinoak trail and follow it to your right and pass by the descending portion of Rimrock continuing in a clockwise loop and re connecting to Rimrock and go down the same trail that you came up. Easy 2.6 mile hike.
57 degrees Fahrenheit, cloudless sunny day. . . so perfect day to hike this area of dry, dusty, well maintained, clearly marked trails in “Hill Country”.
Nice round trip. Part of it has no shade so be prepared with some sunscreen
Lots of beautiful Canyonlands terrain do all levels. Low traffic let’s you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere.
