Harlingen Thicket' is full of surprises, a moderate track has good turns and descends. Also futures some jumps. This is not for easy going people, its for a bit more experience riders

The west side near the Thicket has some nice dirt jumps, berms and sick DH sections good for bmx or an aggressive hardtail. Not much flow in the area and be prepared for thorns in your tires... but it IS South Texas. Not many places down here where you can avoid the thorns AND the pavement.

I use the Thicket side of the Park to Mountain Bike. Remember both climbs are as Tall as a Two story house. Basically you are climbing on your mountain bike or Gravel bike from the bottom of the Trail. To the Height of the Black Bridge. Do this for an hour or two. Great practice.

Walking

This trail is rated moderate, but it's easy. The strain comes from the heat, humidity and the flying insects. During rainy days there are small sections that get a bit muddy but not tough to overcome. There are a few side trails to walk to and return if one chooses. We do the main trail starting from Mckelvey Park and head to the roundabout playground at the end of the main trail. There you can find some benches, some shade and a public water fountain if you're thirsty, need to refill your water bottles or hydration pack or simply to cool down.

Paved trail for runners or street bikers. Wicked off road mountain bike dirt trails on West side of trails. Most of bike trail is beginner/intermediate. A few short down hill sections and one double jump at the end of a narly downhill that was beyond my skill level I would rate as advanced. Overall an excellent trail system for all skill level bikers and runners/walkers as well.
