My kids and I live near by, so this state park is one of our regular visits. The hiking is simple but pretty. We like using this park because it offers more than just hiking, it has a big swimming pool, fishing pond, lake, kayak rentals, and even campsites, yurts, and screen shelters for overnight stays! Nothing huge and extravagant about the park, but a nice day trip or close weekend stay!

Beautiful trail. This was a great experience for me and my nieces (10, 13, and 14) who have Never Gone Hiking! I wanted to start them off with something simple but beautiful and this was perfect!! Highly recommended!

Not sure if I should be riding on this trail, but it’s a fun little blast, just to get the urge out. Watch out for hikers and be respectful.

There are plenty of different options within the trail system at Abilene State Park. Most will end up with roughly 2 miles of mostly flat, tree covered terrain. Unfortunately, the surrounding areas outside of the park are privately owned and don’t allow hiking.

It’s a state park, which means you have to pay to get in. I wouldn’t say it’s worth paying $10 to go walk around on a couple short trails. The scenery is decent. Except the weird trash (like a huge plastic barrel and shoes) in one of the small ponds.

Abilene State Park is a nice little stare park, and the hiking is simple and relaxing. Nothing difficult or challenging just a nice stroll in the park, literally!

Decent and mild trails. Nothing overly exciting. The lake trail is shown on the State Park app and website. Not too bad but there is very limited shade. And if you start too early the gate is locked and you must park place along the main road. And...horseflies! The trails inside the park proper are....quick little paths. Great for stretching your legs if you camp here.

We went hiking around lake abilene. It was a good little stretch with visible trails the whole way. However hardly any shade at all. Luckily we found a shade half way through so we could enjoy some lunch. Took us about 2.5 hours to get through it.
