Good hike. Nice smaller waterfalls but a great creek area where many swim & raft.

This a beautiful trail with lots of cascades, waterfalls, an old mining cave and scenic views. The first section of the trail is pretty rugged and a little technical, but once you reach the old mining road, it is not bad. You have to cross the creek below Strip Mine Falls to see the mining cave and the awesome view of the Chickamauga Creek Canyon. The cave and the view are literally just across the creek. You would never know either is there unless you are a curious person and keep poking around like we did. We noticed it was level over there and thought it looked like a good place to have lunch or we would have missed the second best part of this trail.

Didn't get to explore much of this trail. Hubby rolled his ankle during the rocky portion of the trail, and had to head back. Will come again though. Some muddy spots and little streams running through the trail due to the recent rainy weather.

Beautiful river. Will be great to visit in the summer & check out Blue Hole. We took the lower loop up with 5 kids and it was a rocky climb with a steep fall off at many places. We got up to the main trail & accidentally turned right immediately which took us back down the upper loop instead of to Strip Mine Falls. (Go left for that or pay attention to your map! :) The upper loop was much more family friendly & we would take it up next time. Can’t wait to come back.

Wow! North Chicamauga Creek is gorgeous! I spent as much time along the creek banks as I did along the actual trail. The monolithic boulders that punctuate the waterway make it stunningly photogenic (and a favorite obstacle course for whitewater kayakers). The deeply-carved cliffs that plunge into the eastern currents rise hundreds of feet above the forest canopy. Creekside detours and a couple of switchbacks aside, this route is pretty much a straight, steady incline all the way to Strip Mine Falls. There are a couple of cascade crossings that require you to hop a few boulders; other than that, it’s a wide, clear, easy-to-follow path. The Cumberland Trail continues beyond the cascades below Strip Mine Falls. Having seen how gorgeous this area is, I cannot wait to explore the two North Chicamauga segments of the Cumberland Trail. I ran across tons (literally) of old broken terra cotta pottery along the upper trail area. I’m incredibly curious about the story behind this. I’m sure it’s related to the mining operation but could not intuit its specific purpose. Directions and landmarks: At mile 0.5, you reach a side trail leading to the Blue Hole in the creek. Immediately afterwards, look for a trail leading up some stone stairs to the right. At mile 0.9, you cross over a cascading creek. Soon after, the trail zigzags uphill to the right. At mile 1.1, there’s a spur a trail leading to a spot higher up Hodgkin Branch with a few small waterfalls. At mile 1.8, you reach the turnaround point at Strip Mine Falls.

Lower loop is pretty rocky. While steep the upper loop option a few hundred feet into the hike is a nice alternative route. Creek crossing required.

Fun trail with our 6 & 8 yo. A fair bit of scrambling up rocks for their little legs, but they enjoyed. The view up by the cave past the falls was such a beautiful surprise. On the way down we took Hodgson Trail (I think that's the name) for an easier way back. Overall a really beautiful spot for a winter hike.

Knocked out this trail on January 3rd with my son. Nice little workout up to the falls and back. A couple nice stops along the way. Check out the old foundation up near the top for what looked to be an old coke oven. Creek was running down the falls too hard for us to head on over to the old mine. We’ll go back.

The overlook at the end is beautiful. The waterfalls at this time were small but very nice. There was some steep climbing but it wasn't terrible. A very nice trail.

Great trail, easy to follow and well-maintained. The waterfall at the top was worth the hike. Great views of the surrounding valley and buttes.
