6/8/19 - We used this trail as our approach for hitting 7 of the 12 6k peaks in the Smokies - Old Black, Guyot, Sequoyah, Chapman, Yonaguska, Mark’s Knob and Luftee Knob. It’s as described - rocky and relentless.

Tough trail. Very rocky and tons of roots and loose fallen branches that require looking down the entire ascent or descent. Late May is a beautiful time for Mountain Laurel and Catawba rhododendron blooms. Not many overlooks until you reach the AT and Inadu Knob

Really nice trail ! One creek to go through without any bridge but River was not that high! About 5-6 areas w trees down. Snow all the way up! Finally got to see the sunshine and blue sky ! Too bad there is not any look up up there. It s actually 3495 feet elevation not 4172.

Great hike out of Cosby Campground. Steady climbing all the way up. My suunto ambit clocked it 5.62 from the parking area to the junction with the AT. I made a loop back to the campground using Maddron’s Bald and Gabe’s Mountain trails totaling 19.75 miles (including the walking through the campground). Long for a day hike, but a great walk and much less crowded than the hikes in the more popular areas of the park. Able to see Maddrons Bald, Albright Grove and Hen Wallow Falls.

Camped at the Cosby campground and hiked to the A.T. . Pack weight was 50 pounds and planning to be on the A.T. For a week. This trail you Must have hiking poles. You must have ankle wraps. The entire trail requires you to concentrate on your footing. Since you change elevation the flora is a changing constantly. Consumed 3 liters of water.

We traveled up to the AT marker and back for a day hike. Steep. It's a constant uphill experience with plenty of rocks, roots, and snails. Trail is narrow but clear and maintained. Props to the people carrying chainsaws up there! Great workout. One nice overlook and the creek with the bridge is nice. I definitely plan to do more trails around the Cosby campground.

Steep, narrow, rocky, up-hill all the way. Nice view about mid-way up. Impressive change of flora and climate along the way.
