historic site

This is the site of the largest battle in the Western Theater of the Civil War. Nearly 110,000 troops clashed in a bloody contest that resulted in 23,746 casualties (more than all of America's previous wars combined). The National Park Service auto tour begins and ends at the Visitor Center. There are twenty official stops listed on the park map, but there are many more historical points of interest passed along the way.

Take the time to really explore during your visit. There is much to see on the full auto tour of the large battlefield. We really enjoyed all the sites, while learning a lot about this historic location. Do not miss the informative Visitor Center and Museum. We saw lots of wildlife throughout the park, particularly deer and wild turkey.
