This is a fairly new trail that is well maintained. The views from the tower are awesome. The trail traffic is heavy on weekends.

Great hike.

Great 360 views from the top of the fire watch tower. Totally worth the hike. Not sure steep but remember to take snacks and plenty of water. The bugs are annoying but nothing really bit us.

Trail was really well maintained with not much traffic. The gradient is pretty lowkey, took us about an hour 45 to get up to the top at a leisurely pace for lunch and a great view at the fire tower. It can be a little cool and windy at the top so I’d recommend bringing a layer!

Great for hiking or exercise. Watch for downhill MTBs on your way out, it’s almost all singletrack except near the top.

really like this trail,I've done it several times in different seasons. Easy hike with really pretty view at the top.

Easy trail to keep...but decent views from the top. Being in Erwin, litter everywhere, of course. The area around the firetower looks like a dump, pretty typical of the area. Decent hike mildly strenuous. My 5 year old made it up and back, so not too bad-would have been much better if clean.

Fun hike and is a great length for those looking for a long hike. Absolutely gorgeous and lots of plant life to examine.

Nice trail that is not difficult. 4 miles from bottom if you walk the road to the left at the parking area. It gets a little menotanous due to lack of views and things along the trail. Not bad if you drive to the parking area and hike the trail up from there.

Incredible view! Earn it with the length but easy to moderate trail. Can run and bike it. So worth it no matter how you climb it!

Great hike and views. Steady incline the whole way up.

Moderate hike. Easy, steady incline for the first 3.5 miles and gets fairly steep from there to the top. There is a top parking lot for people who don't want to hike the lower 3.5 miles.

Not a difficult trail by any means, just long. The hike eventually got to my lower half after about the 3.5 mile mark, so the last mile was a little tough, but great views from the fire tower. Steps going up fire tower are pretty small, so take it slow so you don't slip. All in all it's a good trail, but probably just going to do this once.

longer trail, 4.8 up but it is a constant gentle climb. Have seen many rattlers up there the last 2 years so use caution if you have dogs

Well maintained trail. The views at the fire tower are breathtaking. This trail in my opinion is easy. I would rate it moderate only because of the mileage.

Well maintained trail. Lengthy but the climb is gradual, so it isn't too difficult. Views are great if you are willing to climb to the observation deck. It is nice, large deck. Had my lunch there.

Loved this trail. Easy hiking but is 9 miles so still a good workout. When you get to the top the view is amazing!

Great, well marked trail with a fantastic view at the end that is worth the climb. It is a climb, however. So, be prepared to relentlessly walk uphill for 4 to 4.5 miles. It's a pretty gradual climb with only a couple steep spots. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the distance and that is a in and out trail, so once you hike it up, you have to hike it back the same way. Can be a little repetitive and boring, but again, the views to me are worth doing it at least once.

My husband and I attempted this trail today and only made it to the one mile marker and turned back. Why? We haven't hiked in months. Great trail with switchbacks but we are out of shape. Trail. Park then proceed on gravel road that goes behind the small building from the parking lot. The parking lot accommodates about 6 cars but people were parking on the grass next to the main road. We ran into a guy running with his 2 dogs who weren't on leashes and one was 25 meters behind him. We found 3 piles of dog poo of which 1 pile was on the trail and the other 2 on the side of the trail. Please people put your dog on a leash and clean up their poop. Nice peaceful walk without a lot of people. We will go back.

Fantastic hike. I logged a little over 11 miles up and back and it took close to 5 hours. I went off the beaten trail a lot and looked at the wild orchids and many different Trillium species. If you really like wildflowers, this hike is for you!

Great Trail well Maintained. Few areas had a good workout. If go up to top make sure to have layers. Went from 62 to 43 when I went on 2/17/17.

difficulty rating should be easy, 1000ft-ish gain over 4 miles of a well maintained trail. Great for trail running or easy weekend afternoon hike.
