Even though Alum Cave trailhead has more parking places than most other trails in the park, it also fills up faster than most. Show up at noon and you'll be looking for a spot along the road some distance from the trailhead.

Wow. This is one of the most beautiful trails I’ve seen. There are more majestic trails in Yosemite, Tetons, etc., but this trail is a beautiful gem. I clocked 5.8 on mileage bc I searched for (and failed to find) the summit.

Favorite hike we did in the Smokies. Along the stream for the first 2/3, then rewarded with decent views after the caves and to the bluff. Definitely not hard. Would choose this hike over most of the other popular hikes. Get there early. Parking fills up early. The ascent was not very difficult. Steady and gradual.

Absolutely gorgeous. Follows a river and then goes uphill into the mountain with breathtaking views. Highly recommend!!

The first 2/3 of the hike runs along the creek and is a pleasure. Slight incline the entire way. The last 1/3 leaves the creek and is fairly steep and definitely uphill the entire way. The last 1/3 is just a trail that switch backs up the mountain - no overly impressive views until you get very close to the end. It’s also just about a 5 mile loop not the 4.1 listed.

Wonderful trail. Absolutely loved following the water at the beginning and amazing views at the top. Very, very busy trail.

Great hike!!! One newbie and two moderate hikers! Wonderful views towards the top. Would love to do it again.

This was such a pleasant surprised. Half the trail goes along a very scenic creek, that leads to some very dramatic rock formations. Nicely shaded throughout most of the trail. The incline is gradual.

Enjoyed the trail. Rained day before so creek was flowing nicely. Went early but trail was still crowded.

Good walk with 5 and 7yo kids, just over 3 hours including breaks. First half of the trail is alongside the river which had plenty of energy. Lots of bridges kept the kids interested. The arch and cave are both nice to see.

It was a great hike! The view as you go up is decent, and the view at the top is decent, but it wasn’t epic.

It does get a little crowded and parking is rough but it is still well worth it. My four kids ages 6-14 did it with no problem. Great bridges and walkways leading to a fantastic views near the top.

the trail is stunning. there are many spots to overlook the mountains throughout.

My favorite hike in the smokies! The scenery on the way up is so pretty and peaceful, and the views once you get to the top are some of the best on any trail I've been on. The walk was not too strenuous- just a super enjoyable hike!

Beautiful hike! The incline is very gradual so it’s a good hike for a group that has people as varying levels of skill.

Have been on a lot of beautiful hikes in National parks over the last 25 years...this has to be one of my favorites! When you get to the Alum Cave view, it’s spectacular! Reminded me of Bandolier Nat’l Park in NM. The trail is gorgeous bottom to top and very well maintained.

Very beautiful! Going early in the morning is great because there’s less crowds and the temperature is a lot cooler, which makes it more enjoyable. I would definitely go again

the first half is walk into a park with water flowing on the side. it gradually climbs up and has plenty of stone ladders and rope support.

Starts off easy but about a mile in it goes up and then up some more. Views before the top are great!

Great trail in the Smokies! Found it easy to moderate, only thing that made it more difficult was the weather (very hot and humid). Beautiful river that runs along most of the trail. Views at the bluffs was amazing and like nothing I’ve seen before. Did this in about 2 hours.

Everything you’d expect from a highly rated national parks trail. Excellent views of the river and small cascades for the first half up to the cliffs. Lots of cool bridge crossings and the trail terrain was in great condition. Mostly level walking conditions. Views were very good about a quarter mile before the cliffs and the cliffs themselves were nice too. Definitely moderate to high end easy for difficulty. Started hiking at 6am, back by 8:15 with about 10 min rest at the cliffs. Very peaceful hike early, many groups were passed on the way back though. No wildlife on the trail for us expect a small snake, although we saw 2 pretty large elk as we were exiting the trail parking so that was a bonus. Hiked Sunday 6/16, great weather :-)

Very nice hike. We did this with our 3 5 and 8 year olds. It was a little strenuous for them on the way up, but the views at the top (before the Cave) were a nice pay-off. The hike fit well with the 2.5 hour break in rain we had and this hike was a good option for that. There were a number of bridges/water crossings that our girls really enjoyed.

Views were amazing. Not a difficult trail at all. A good family hike. If you're up for the challenging, continue another 2.7 more miles to Mt LeConte for some more amazing views.

have lodging on the top and try to reach before 4 pm on the top for lunch. wear good shoe and keep good amount of water. took us 4.5 hr to go up and 3 hr to go down on same day. totally exhausted. beautiful view at Cliff.

The views were amazing. The rhododendron at Inspiration Point we’re blooming and quite breathtaking. The panoramic views from Cliff Tops were awe inspiring. The trail is real hard. A lot of steps and steep inclines.

Believe the hype. This trail is gorgeous. With only 4.2 miles of distance, it is a moderate difficulty. In the top season it is heavy trafficked, so I recommend early morning as the safest option. The rhododendrones were only starting to bloom in some places in the end of may.

It’s long, with a consistent incline, but there’s a lot to see! Azalea, rhododendron (soon), mountain laurel, views, rock formations, creeks, and the lodge at the top is pretty cool too.
