Followed Ronald Rasnick's route and proceeded beyond it to the intersection with Holston Mtn West at approx 3.2 miles. We then explored that very little used trail, then failed to find an easy way down (See uploaded route for details). Our information (Nat. Geo. Map) was that the trail connected with a forest service road which it did; but the Map indicated that we should turn right to proceed down. Going that way proceeds along the ridge and peters out. We did find an unknown trail (old Big Arm trail?) along the way that we want to explore further. Also found a old still.

This would make a very good out and back hike. Beautiful views in early spring. Also connects with the ridge trail, so you could hike on up to the fire tower, holston mtn trail, etc.

This trail is accessible!!! Gradual uphill for about 4 miles with nice views of Chinquapin, Bluff City, and Bays Mtn. From US-19E take USFS-87 about 4 miles and there is a parking area and a trail marker. **.4 miles after a prominent ATV trail and noticable tree that fell across the road that the Forest Service cut a big portion out of. **
