Getting There

In addition to the greenway trail at Melton Hill Park, there are several miles of natural surface trails that make a series of loops around the park. The mowed meadow trail begins north of the swimming beach, paralleling the greenway trail. On your way around, there will be a spur trail to connect to the adjacent loop which heads over to the eastern boat dock, weaving through the meadows in that section. This is a perfect habitat for a variety of birds for those that enjoy birdwatching. From the southern-most parking area past the playground and volleyball court, there is a trail that leads into the forest. This woodsy path skirts along the shoreline, offering several spurs over to the rocky bank of the Clinch River. This trail loops through the woods and offers several return options.

This was just ok. Beautiful views but the trails for biking were less than desirable. Nice place to walk but not many places to ride.

Not much to see. By the dock where people go fish. So if you’re a woman prepare for a whistle from some dude fishing..

Long drive to this trail. The loop is actually only about .5 miles and the other arm was over grown and I could not walk it. The loop part was a very nice walk but extremely short for the long drive.

Really nice for a walk or run. To the left of the parking lot facing the water is hiking in the woods, whereas a right will make you loop around a field. The water’s edge is walled off by trees and bushes but other than that the trail was pleasant. Sweet smelling trees and wind make this an enjoyable place for kids, biking or pets.

This is a beautifully maintained park. The woods portion of this trail is fairly unremarkable but makes for a nice loop on walk up to the overlook and back down to the parking area. A few trees down in the woods, but manageable and very little litter.

Just a leisurely walk through grassy hills really. Lake access and swimming areas. Perfect if young kids are with you.

Disappointing. The wooded part of this hike takes you on trails filled with empty beer cans and other assorted litter. The paved path is nice, and turns into a grassy trail. If you're at the park, it might be worth taking the walk. If you're not, don't go out of your way for this one. There's better options.

First time we went there was a lot of litter. Second time it was much cleaner, but I still don't know if I would go swimming here.

Walking

It is an okay walk, not really a trail, more like visiting a park. If you venture of to the left of the parking lot, you'll get on a short trail that is pretty.
