The least challenging, least scenic, and least trafficked trail in South Cumberland. On a positive note, it’s also the most serene. Little elevation change. The vast majority of the trail is in the woods on soil so it’s easy on the body. With little traffic all you hear are running streams and birds which is great. During rainy weather, it gets very muddy and parts of trail have standing water. Nothing a good pair of waterproof hiking books can’t handle, but wearing trail runners could result in wet feet. I wouldn’t make a trip just for this trail, but tied in with Stone Door and Big Creek Rim trails it make a 7.1 mile loop which is solid day hike.

This was nothing but flat walking through trees. I found myself bored. This is a fine trail for a first time hiker but don't expect to see anything but trees, no view here.

Nice easy trail to get to Alum Gap Campground and save your legs. Not a lot to see other than the still mentioned earlier. This was part of a two day hike for us that included a much bigger loop on the BCG Trail and Alum Gap Camp. really just a nice peaceful area that was not traveled heavily when we went through.

This is a 2.9 trail that takes you back to the parking lot and bypasses the Big Creek Rim Trail. It is a nice leisurely walk through the woods and takes off a mile and 2/10 of the 9.5 mi. Stone Door, Big Creek Gulf and Big Creek Rim loop. We took this trail to shorten our hike due to time and enjoyed it.

First of all LAUREL TRAIL IS 2.9 MILES IN LENGTH. I don't know where 4.8 came from. Not much to see on Laurel unless you enjoy ferns and wooden footbridges. It can be combined with Big Creek Gulf or Rim trails to make a shorter loop. There is an old, marked still site near the end close to Alum gap. It is flat and rather boring.
