Not terribly scenic if you stick to The hard trail and not the bluff views. Still a nice hike with the train tracks and rock cliffs.

Great trail. Gravel on the hardy trail, then the loop is to come back on mountain beautiful trail which runs into craven’s trail. Really cool to walk under the incline and watch it go by! Park at craven’s house.

I did this counterclockwise...the west side had some decent elevation gains and was on the moderate side of easy (nice leg and cardio workout) while the east side is a service road and an easy stroll back.

I lived off a small trailhead for several years and walked/ran this thing a million times. Love it. Beautiful vistas. Easy to do.

On 1/9/21, the gate, parking lot, and trails were all open. I missed access to the last third of the route, but the hike we did was great.

One of my favorite gravel jogs- it is very wide (great for social distancing!) and is open as of July. The Lookout Mountain Conservancy owns this land and they are a great organization!

Did this trail by accident after ending up on it coming off of Craven’s House. Nice trail and walking under the incline is really cool.

Okay, so if you work clockwise from the parking area, you really are walking a gravel road for a mile. The trail does not end, though, but switches back up the mountain. If you do go this way, complete the loop. The cliffs at the top are worth the climb. However, I would work counter-clockwise and hit the cliffs first. There’s a solid climb at first, but there is relief at the cliffs. I’d consider turning back at the descent down to the gravel road and doing this as an out-and-back hike and cut the gravel road all together. This would qualify for the four star rating I gave it. The cliffs were the main draw for me, not the incline or the “view.” While the gravel path is easy, the upper part definitely qualifies as moderate.

Basically a gravel road. The map is incorrect as it really ends where the map shows a switchback. Nice side trail called Mountain Beautiful Trail that moves up the side of Lookout Mountain. Most interesting part for me was walking under the Incline tracks.

A lot of narrow pathways with drop offs and loose rocks. Would consider this to be a moderate trail.

The bottom half of the loop is really well maintained, however we missed the turn on to Mountain Beautiful Trail because it’s so overgrown you could hardly tell there was a trail there at all. We decided to skip it altogether since we weren’t dressed to trek through the chest height, dense underbrush. Kind of disappointed. It would probably be a good short hike during the fall, but not so much during the summer.

Beautiful trail, I really enjoyed it. However, there are hardly any trail markers or signs to keep you on the Hardy trail. I had to ask around to find the trailhead and missed a turn along the trail which led me far from Hardy trail. There's a V in the trail about a mile or so in, and you need to take a right. There are no signs at that split, but left is definitely not Hardy. Otherwise, very nice trail and very peaceful.

First third is on a rocky vehicle-wide trail. Last 2/3 is one person-wide, mostly dirt trail. Get to pass under the Incline railway track twice (second is only feet from the train itself).
