Gum Springs Trail #5 to Meadow Creek Trail #6 is a 5.8 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Greeneville, Tennessee that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This route starts at the Houston Valley Campground. The trailhead is directly across the highway from the campground. Parking is available at the campground and also available at the top (via Meadow Creek Road) if leaving two cars. Head up the trail up the ridge, passing the Meadow Creek Road connector trail on your left (about .5 mile in). Take a left at the Meadow Creek Mountain Trail (just under 1.5 miles in) on the ridge line. After going another mile, take a right onto Meadow Creek Road and go another half a mile. Make a left at the fork to end at the fire tower. Amazing views at the tower!
December 21, 2020The directions in reviews really helped, I screenshot and had no problems. If your looking for a moderate half day hike with great views, low trafficked in East Tennessee that you can bring your dog this one is top notch!

First to ReviewThe map is correct, but the trail entrance is a little hard to find. It's DIRECTLY across the street from the Houston Valley Campground--which has a bathroom that was closed when we visited during Coronavirus. Note: There is parking at both ends of this out-and-back trail. The view from the fire lookout is amazing! (No bathroom at Fire Lookout). The trail was a little confusing (our fault), so to be clear: 1. Park at the Campground 2. Take Gum Springs Trail #5 for about 0.5 miles 3. Do not turn left onto Connector Trail #5A. Keep right and continue 1.3 miles. 4. Turn left onto Meadow Creek Trail #6 (sign directs you to the fire tower) 5. Turn right onto Meadow Creek Road, which is a road and not a trail, walk 0.5 miles 6. Left at the fork (there is no sign) 7. To get back, either retrace your steps or, if you're tired, just take the road back to Highway 107 and turn left. By road, it's about 3.3 smooth miles.
