Drakes Creek Park South is a 1.7 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Hendersonville, Tennessee that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
This trail is overgrown along the southern side. Accessibility: This asphalt, concrete and wooden bridge trail is estimated to typically be at least 4 feet wide. The slope is estimated to be flat to gentle and range from -2% (downhill) to 2% (uphill) grade. There are 3 ADA-compliant car parking spots with 3 access aisles at the paved trailhead lot.
Nice walk on bridge over Old Hickory Lake to get to the trail. There's a vending machine available with duck and geese food for 25 cents so you can throw it to some feathered Friends on the way
it wasnt great. I was expecting a really beautiful nature walk but it was right off a busy road and you pass many houses and it felt very intrusive. almost all benches were completely broken and it seemed very overgrown and dirty. it was also disappointing to see a large family feeding bread to the waterfowl when it was clearly stated not to and food was provided. I wouldnt come here again.
This route starts off on the eastern side of the bridge. You can cross the bridge and take the route in a counterclockwise direction or head toward the pavilion beside the ball fields and take the route in a clockwise direction. The stacked loop to the south of the peninsula is an incomplete trail that is only used by a small homeless population that fishes along Drakes Creek for sustenance. This overgrown path ends in a small encampment in a thicket (and does NOT reconnect with the main trail). Attempting to complete this loop will only result in a scramble through the woods, not a typical greenway experience. Since this trail is a favorite for parents with small children (because of the duck-and-goose-friendly feeding area beside the bridge), I am proposing a minor trail revision to the AllTrails app staff. This new route would be a stacked loop using all of the official greenway areas in the Drakes Creek South Park. Note: The trail along the peninsula sometimes becomes flooded after heavy rainfall.
Not great. Busy around the water. The chi through is overgrown as they have tried to eliminate it.
Too my dog out here for a hike. Thought we were headed to Drake's Creek Park North, but with no signage when you enter the park, we ended up at this one and didnt realize it till we had hiked all the way out. I mean it was fine! It's a sports complex with a paved trail along it and there happens to be some water that also twists around the property. We enjoyed it.
More of a walking trail verses hiking. Great for folks who can’t walk too far or have kids. Dog owners be careful, I couldn’t be sure but I was very careful near the muddy areas that had the blue green tint on top. I’m not an expert but I didn’t let me pup go near those areas next to the walkways.
very easy and great for kids. paved and flat. lots of birds, fish, turtles
As someone else said, not much of a hiking trail. Hiking trail to me means my shoes are going to get dirty ;) It is a paved path around the park. It does get messy due to the ducks and geese around the park as well. And it can be very buggy. Glad I sprayed bug spray before i went or the mosquitos would have had a Hay day! It would be a nice hike with kids, elderly and pets since it is paved and flat.
This trail is pretty short but the scenery is really nice. I usually start at the friendship bridge and do the loop counterclockwise. There's a nice mostly clean creek that my dog likes to lay in near the end of the trail on hot days. Plus they just got done building the new dog park here. This park makes for a good dog friendly day.
I use this path pretty regularly (couple times a month) as it is right next to my nearest dog park. It's a decent little path that I generally repeat 3-5 times on a run. Pros: Nice waterside walk, very easy, dog park nearby, easy access Cons: You aren't allowed to bike on half of the loop, so the information isn't entirely accurate, heavily used by slow walkers so it isn't the greatest for running during peak times, small section near a large "duck feeding" area, so many children/elderly to watch out for.
