Dogwood Park is a 0.4 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Cookeville, Tennessee. The trail is good for all skill levels and primarily used for walking. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
High in the Cumberland plateau lies the dogwood park trail. While this is rated as easy this is a unique trail with unadvertised challenges! Start a hiking trail with boots and trekking poles, but step onto this “trail” and you will soon realize you are not prepared for what awaits here, trail is dominated by rocky substance rendering much hiking gear neutral. There is very little shade on this trail so the elements are quite real. And please please, download the map, I did not see a blaze or a sign on the entire trail! Nor did I notice the presence of any park rangers. I have heard tail of many a hiker straying from the trail here and spending hours more than they had planned! In addition there are no switchbacks or steps along the places with the most elevation change, and very limited water access. Trail can be confusing at times, so many unlabeled turns. Few overlooks if any, but an unusual water feature we will say about halfway through. Great trail, but do come prepared!
