Hiked this on Sat. April 4 2020. While the first little uptick suffers from washouts, it's so worth the hike. The trail is lined with wildflowers, too many to name. I went up the old trail to the right off Overlook. Challenging because it's pretty overgrown, but so quiet. Lots more wildflowers, including a large patch of trout lilies. I hike this everytime I go to Laurel Run.

I would also rate this trail as Moderate due to the steep rocky section. Recent rains caused flooding doing damage to the trailhead bridge. Still passable. The incline to the overlook was like walking in stream. The section toward the waterfalls was in good condition. Very pretty area but prone to flooding. The park was closed several days recently due to the Holston breaching it’s banks.

I would rate this as more moderate than easy, simply because of the degree of the incline. After doing the overlook loop, we continued on trail (right instead of left after coming down from the overlook) to see the waterfall, which was an easy hike.

Even though the Wet conditions made the trail a challenge it was still a beautiful place to hike.

A few have noted that the back end of the loop is a bit overgrown. Some places hard to see whats under your feet. Thats still true with a few trees down also. This trail just needs a bit of TLC and would be great throughout the loop. The trees are gonna need to be attended to on both ends of the trail. Nice view even in the grown-up deep summertime.

I walk this trail at least a couple times a week. The view is great and definitely clear, even in summer. If you take the first right off the main path to the overlook, it is very steep and you’ll definitely get your cardio in. However, it’s a pretty short hike up to the lookout. You can then continue on the trail to lead back to the path that will take you to the falls. Likewise, you could hike it backwards, coming from the falls, where it is less steep but much longer to the overlook. Definitely worth a trip up.

much nicer, quieter route than the main trail to the falls.

I wouldn't classify this trail as easy but seasoned hikers will have no problem with it. Very steep for the majority of the trail but it goes by quickly. Quaint view of the valley. I love hitting this on the way back from the falls as it's a milder trail from the back. Love this trail!

Not worth the effort for the view. Needs to have trees cut down for a better view. Much better option is to main trail to falls.
