The waterfall is picturesque and well worth the difficult scramble required to reach the base. The access road (Roaring Fork Nature Trail) is closed Dec 1 - Mar 31. However, the ending trailhead is located close to the start of the motor nature trail. One creek crossing on this hike could be a little tricky in very wet weather.

The scenery and views on this trail were beautiful and absolutely worth the hike. I'd rate this trail a moderate trail wear good hiking shoes and bring some water shoes to play at the falls (if its had enough rain the past few days. My husband and I enjoyed this trail... the opening up at the ridgeline and random quart rock structures were a site to see. Close to earning my 100 mile smokies hiker badge and this is probably my favorite hike we've done so far. we did not see any bears but a few squirrels and some deer. the cemetery is a bit of a hike up.. this is a history rich area with old homesteads foundation walls on the way to the falls.

This is a great up & down trail. We took the trail up to the falls & then came back & went back up to the Basken Creek trail. We were looking for the clearing & hoping for the views that one reviewer mentioned but didn’t find it. Instead, we almost need up at the parking lot on the other side of the trail. The running water of the creek was soothing & if you look closely, you will see a braver damm too. Nice photo op one the way in that might have been considered a alcove/cave like shelter. We scrambled up & took our pics. Overall a pleasant hike that was a good work out but not my favorite as I was looking for a scenic view.

Best bang for your buck waterfall trail on the auto loop. We started at 10:45 at the north parking lot and went to the falls and back. Took us about 2.5 hours to do only about 3.6 miles of the trail. It is strep and slippery at times. We only saw about 12 people during the entire duration of our hike.

This was a great trail. Rated moderate, but I’d say it’s on the heavy side of it. Some of it was narrow, but doable. Make sure to have waterproof shoes or boots. Crossing small streams can be done in tennis shoes if it hasn’t rained. The end is so worth it! However, the trip back is all uphill and you’ll get a workout!

Started this from Baskins creek trailhead. Very narrow at some points and kind of overgrown. Basically all downhill to the waterfall which means a lot of uphill on the way back. Watch measured about 900ft elevation gain overall between there and back so your legs are gonna get a workout. Trail right before waterfall is fairly steep narrow and rocky but very doable. Waterfall is awesome and can cross over to right next to it!

Wish that the bushes was trimmed down more cause once you make it up there aren’t any places to sit and take in the views and/or eat lunch! Very steep too.

This trail was great! It was challenging and remote enough to be fun but not too difficult that you can't do it with kids. (We hiked with children ages 11, 10, 8, and 7 - all relatively experienced hikers for their age.) There is quite a bit of uphill on the way out. Some may find the rocky (but short) section on the way down to the waterfall a bit tricky - but worth it.

It does not say on here but this is closed right now! The road right before parking is closed. We tried to get up there today and a lot of people where also and was turning around in the park before you get there.

Beautiful hike with a couple inches of fresh snow. Nice waterfall. Several shallow stream crossings. Hiked beyond the falls to edge of the park boundary. Several trees across the trail and rhododendron hanging over trail.

Beautiful sights- a good chance to get up close to the fires from 2016. This trail is mostly downhill on your way in and a lot of uphill your way out. Bring water

walking through the burn areas shows how hot the fire of 2016 got. this a a pretty trail with a pretty falls. the trail is much more difficult than described. once you get in, you must get out. in summer bring water.

Really challenging trail! I think it depends on what time of year you go. The waterfall was more like a stream. The mountain views were absolutely beautiful. On your way down to the waterfall things seem relatively moderate. But the return hike is ALL uphill with moderately rocky terrain. It is a solid 6 mile hike. We did enjoy the challenge.

This trail kicked our butts! Online we read a rating on this trail as easy and 3 miles round trip. I kept telling my hubby that whoever rated this trail was nuts or we are just totally out of shape! Needless to say it was tough but it was well worth it! We met a fellow hiker that told us about this APP. We are Glad to have it....

This trail is HARD! Not for young children or people who are hiking for the first time. The trip there is fine, mostly downhill. There is a STEEP rock scramble to the falls. The falls themselves are nothing to write home about. There are LOTS in the Smokies that are prettier and easier to get to. We hike about once every two weeks and the hike back (straight up for over a mile) kicked our asses even with frequent breaks. The forest is beautiful as always even with the burned area from the fire of ‘16.
