Great for beginners. Was able to walk directly under the water fall. We had an awesome time. Took us about 15-20 minutes to complete.

Cool little hike with waterfall if you’re in the area. Not sure I’d make a special trip, but worth the stop if you’re nearby.

An amazing hike and an amazing view. Started in Damascus on the AT and got on a spur trail down to the rock.

Good short hike around Backbone Rock. Lost of stairs, and not ideal for people with fear of heights.

Extremely short "trail." Its a bit interesting to see and walk across. Maybe not suited for those with a serious fear of heights. Walked this and the Backbone Falls trail in about 30 minutes total at a slow pace.

Good for a nice short hike with a great view. Be aware there are steep steps, so if you have bad knees take your walking stick.

Nice trail even if your a bit scared of heights. Wish there was better signage about the history of the area.

Short trail over a unique spine of a rock of which a railroad tunnel was built. Steep climb, then over ridge then back down to the road. Unique

Interesting trail that follows a rock formation which crosses the road. The tunnel through the formation was created for a railroad that later became the highway

I have been here many times and always love it! It's a fairly simple hike although having my son with me made me nervous. He's a bit of a daredevil and the walkways are narrow on top in places and have dropoffs. We also saw a snake curled up asleep on top of Backbone. This has a lot of stairs, so it might not be good for people with bad knees. Overall, it isn't a difficult hike and it has a lot of beautiful features. I love going here and would love to go back and picnic there by the water.

This was a cool little hike to do while we were in the area. Sheer dropoffs, so be especially careful with kids.

this trail is pointless. there's also a trail up the mountain if you're willing to hike 5miles in and 5milea back.

Short hike with heavy traffic. Traffic being people on the trail and cars driving by. Makes for an easy hike on a trail with no blazes

A very short and easy trail with some stairs. It takes you over Backbone Rock. The westernmost part of the trail actually goes to the AT when properly maintained. There are guard rails as you cross over route 133. There are good view of the river as it wraps around Backbone Rock. The parking lot also has a rest room while the loop also has a picnic shelter (reservations may be required), and several picnic table/grills. The loop makes a figure 8 and is only about a half mile. Further up the rode towards Damascus is a campground.
