this trail for first time hikers WAS strenuous, but we are also out of shape and wanted a work out, we wanted a challenge! it was so worth it, when the trees clear out and you see that beautiful cliff edge view, it takes your breathe away! we watched a train go by and rafters on the river. a wonderful start to our new hiking adventures!!

Smooth 2 mile out and back to exceptional views! Begins with switchbacks but eventually adjusts into smoother, steady terrain. Low usage, highly recommend.

This was an amazing, well-kept and beautiful trail. It was shady the majority of the way and the views are spectacular!

great trail, but keep in mind you are going up a mountain. The whole way out is up, and the first but is just a bunch of switchbacks. After that the trail does get a little easier. It is a well-maintained trail, with plenty of shade. the forest makes a great natural canopy. At the 1.1-1.25 miles point there are some clearings with some great views. The hike says 1.6, so I kept going to two miles to make sure I was missing anything. The "top" was not all that rewarding due to the fact that there were no clearings to see from, but the views at the 1.25 were well worth it for me!

I love this trail!! Me and my friends went on it not too long ago and it’s a gorgeous view for a shorter hike! It took us about 45 min to an hour to get to the top and we rly enjoyed it! Tons of shade along the trail and a gorgeous river right near by. You have to park off the main road going towards the Appalachian trail and then start hiking, it is kinda steep but I definitely recommend!!

Good overall trail. Not the most rewarding view but is a nice view considering the shortness of the hike. First .5 miles is a little steep but not too bad. Took my young kids and they were fine. Would reccomend and will be doing this hike again in the fall.

A really nice and easy hike to a beautiful clearing with great views to the north and east. We took our three small kids (5,5,3) and they faired very well. I will say that the trail is pretty narrow in certain spots and with the leaves covering the trail it was a bit slippery as well. Bring good hiking shoes. Overall, it was a great hike on a beautiful December afternoon!

Would recommend. A decent out-and-back with a little bit of a steep incline and switchbacks. The view at the end is worth it.

Great little hike, as of now (late November) mostly covered in leaves but still well-marked. I only saw 1 other person but got to sit at the top and have nice quiet time with my dog and enjoy the view. Steep but short, not bad for me. Loved this trail and will be back!!

When you get to the trail, there is a small parking spot before it starts or you can drive across the bridge and there’s a bigger parking spot to the right. There’s a sidewalk to safely walk across the bridge to the trail. It was fairly easy and worth the view! My group went around 10 am and it was shaded most of the way which was nice. There was a hornets nest that was at the top which someone had graciously left a note and drawing at the bottom of the trail indicating where the nest was and marked it at the top to ensure no one would stumble across it. Fortunately there was a small alternate trail to the left so we were able to completely avoid them. I am so thankful for this gesture and the beautiful trail.

We hiked this trail as the second of 2 short hikes in the Erwin area (the first was Martin’s Creek Falls) on August 25, 2019. Parking is on the side of the road near the bridge. Trailhead is on the same side of the road as parking; that is, on the opposite side from the river. Trail starts as a series of switchbacks going uphill with excellent footing. There is little to no vegetation to contend with (like poison ivy), and you are always in the shade. After a half mile or so, trail flattens a bit and remains in great condition. The view at the top, while not the most dramatic, is really nice; you can see in several directions. For a hike of this length, the view is a great reward. The walk down was very easy, of course!

I'll start from the beginning. The parking is a pull off near the bridge. We passed it at first but the realized we had went to far! The hike is not hard, but there is a small incline all the way up. A friend and I took mini breathing/water breaks. If you have a watch tracking your hike, at around .8 to .85 you will be at the cliff. If you do not have a watch that tracks this, you will notice you see the sky more and you will see a weird random hill to your left, that is the cliff. It's a beautiful spot to rest, eat, and drink! The way back down took no time! Definitly worth it and amazing! Across the road from the parking is a small shop. Definitly go check them out! Super nice people!

Was a short easy hike however I would not suggest it’s kid friendly with the small narrow paths. The view was gorgeous at the top though!!
