It's an excellent hike for through hikers, as should be expected with the AT. I prefer peak bagging, or hikes that have some sort of end goal. Admittedly, I only went out about 3 miles before turning around. My heart just wasn't in it. But it's a beautiful area of the AT and well marked and clear. Get a few views of Mt. Mitchell through the trees, which was awesome to see. Not a bad hike, just not my style.

Great out and back today (just forgot to record the out). Decent ascent on the out, but it made the back pretty easy. Nice apple orchard and rock outcropping (that's where I turned back). Gear up and head out to this trail for a great day-hike!

This trail is great for trail running. It's a single track trail that's fairly smooth overall. Lots of thru hikers which was great. I definitely want this run again. It's up and down but beautiful run.

I find this to be a great section of trail to hike. Of course I may be a little prejudiced since I've maintained this trail from Greasy Creek Gap to Hughes Gap for 12 years.
