Very pretty views with lots of tree covering!! It does have more of an incline in some places which I liked compared to most hiking places around Sioux Falls. The trails are used for horseback riding as well so there was some "presents" left on the trails from the horses.

Great, relaxing trail mixed with some generous steady inclines and descents to get the blood pumping. Good mix of terrain and plant life. 5 mile loop is the perfect length for me...a bit over 1.5 hours. Redid a section by accident on the D loop while in conversation...(not paying attention) other than that the trail is easy to navigate the options available. Watch the road apples from the horses on cettain sections!

nice hike. Recommend getting a paper map from the office. at certain spots, people have scratched off the "you are here" stars on the maps that are otherwise nicely placed at forks in the trail. The maps are usually well placed but there are some deficiencies in marking the trails. one map in particular failed to note the D1 vs. D2 loop and just listed everything as "D" which had two sub loops. Thus, the paper map was good to have to reference. large sumac groves. Spotted some neat unexpected birds...a scarlet Tanager, and an eastern Pewee. Saw a doe also. much of the trail is multi purpose. packed dirt. don't go if muddy. was great this week.

Excellent trail. Need to buy a South Dakota Park Sticker for entrance to the park.
I grew up near Newton Hills. I like to return over and again.
