Easy trail to the window overlook. It's an actual walkway so you won't encounter any terrain or rattlesnakes. It takes a few minutes but I'd have some water because the clay reflects heat like crazy.

The short walk on the boardwalk is definitely worth it for the view at the end.

Unfortunately we could only do about half the trail as it got too icy and too dangerous with steep drop offs with little kids. If you have crampons you could do it will definitely be back.

It was the absolute highlight of my entire South Dakota, Mt. Rushmore trip! Once you reach the end of the boardwalk, you can follow markers that lead out into the badlands. If you watched carefully, the markers were extremely clear. The last marker opened up to beautiful views of the badlands with plenty of rocks to sit on while enjoying the views. It seemed like once you reached the end of the boardwalk, many people didn't realize the hike continued, but its absolutely worth it to follow the markers to the end! The hike was so short that it could hardly be called a hiked, but the views, and fun following the markers made it absolutely worth it!
