The drive was spectacular and well worth the time and effort to get there. And getting there wasn't easy for us as we weren't familiar with the roads in the area. Neither my GPS device nor my iPhone was able to nail down the directions, so we wasted quite a bit of time trying to find the roads that got us to the byway. Check a map before you start your trip.

A must-drive if you're visiting the Black Hills. Gives you access to several of the hiking trails in the area including the Savoy-Waterfalls Trail and the Devil's Bathtub.

This is one of my favorite places on earth. I go to SD every year and never miss the waterfalls in Spearfish canyon.

Beautiful ride up the canyon. I loved the waterfall. It was bike week so everything was crowded but that can make for a good time as well.

This highway near Spearfish So. Dak. is a very nice drive, especially in the fall when the leaves have changed color. There is a waterfall halfway up the canyon called Bridal Veil Falls and it looks really cool in the winter when it is frozen, and then there is a trail to hike near Savoy behind the Latchstring Restaurant with a waterfall and the trail is rough on one side when you start the hike, and better on the other side , but it is flat at the bottom, and it is not a very long hike. Then there is Roughlock Falls up about a mile or so from the Latchstring that is a beautiful waterfall, and there is a one mile trail that you can hike starting from the hotel across from the restaurant, or you can drive up to it. The rest of the canyon is also a nice drive and it takes you over to Cheyenne Crossing, where you can head back to Lead So. Dak., or go to Newcastle Wyo.
