Legion Lake Trail is a 1 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Custer, South Dakota that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April until October.
This is a short, scenic walk. Nothing to go out of the way to do. We were staying at Legion Lake Lodge, so it was natural to just check it out.
this was listed as easy to moderate, being from Illinois, and getting closer to retirement age this is actually quite strenuous.
Nice short hike. Straight up and then down. Beautiful.
Easy, usually a good hike in early spring before snows are gone from higher elevaions, may encounter bison near the trail.
trail was hard to find in some places since it is not used very much, but was very enjoyable. directly north of the legion lake campground, so parking was not real obvious. A good evening hike. View of Legion lake was blocked by trees that have grown bigger since the trail was developed, still a good hike.
