Lake Sylvan Trail is a 1.1 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near East Custer, South Dakota that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking and is best used from May until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

A nice walk around Lake Sylvan. Good views. Easy walk.
Beautiful little hike and park. Loved crawling all over the rock structures.
Such a beautiful trail! Not all of it is a clean path, some spots are rocks that you have to climb over, which makes it fun! Some rocks are easy to climb up to get a gorgeous view of the lake.
Loved this trail easy for beginners but beautiful for even those that do hiking a lot very scenic route.
We make this an yearly event. Always great views and an enjoyable experience
This actually can loop the whole lake. Pretty easy, but there is a bit of scrambling over rocks that will have to happen. Wear appropriate footwear! I saw a lot of people in flip-flops struggling along.
Great for beginners, especially kids. Took my 8 & 4 yr old daughters around it with ease. They loved it.
Great opportunities for kids to climb rocks in addition to a fairly easy trail.
Great short hike! Beautiful lake and awesome rock outcroppings everywhere! Easy hike for kids as well.
My top favorite place in SD
For a casual hike around the Hills, it's hard to beat the Sylvan Lake trail. At only a mile, it is a short hike, but the views are great for what is probably the prettiest lake in the Hills. It's not a hard trail and, aside from a brief trip up the other side of the dam, is relatively flat. You can also climb on different boulders and rock outcroppings for other views around the lake. A great casual hike!
Beautiful! We had planned on doing the Sunday Gulch trail but only had time for the lake trail, but it was totally worth it! Different views everywhere around the lake, and when the trail goes behind the rocks and dam it's lovely.
Pretty walk. Very crowded!
