Easy yet beautiful walk around the lake. North side of the lake was less groomed and harder for the older group but they made it. Damn 20$ to get in though.

A great hike to do with the family. We enjoyed climbing on the rocks and seeing some geese swimming on the lake.

Such a beautiful trail! Not all of it is a clean path, some spots are rocks that you have to climb over, which makes it fun! Some rocks are easy to climb up to get a gorgeous view of the lake.

Beautiful, fun.

This actually can loop the whole lake. Pretty easy, but there is a bit of scrambling over rocks that will have to happen. Wear appropriate footwear! I saw a lot of people in flip-flops struggling along.

For a casual hike around the Hills, it's hard to beat the Sylvan Lake trail. At only a mile, it is a short hike, but the views are great for what is probably the prettiest lake in the Hills. It's not a hard trail and, aside from a brief trip up the other side of the dam, is relatively flat. You can also climb on different boulders and rock outcroppings for other views around the lake. A great casual hike!

Beautiful! We had planned on doing the Sunday Gulch trail but only had time for the lake trail, but it was totally worth it! Different views everywhere around the lake, and when the trail goes behind the rocks and dam it's lovely.

We did this hike with our dog
Had a blast
We will be back this next summer
(Just wish dogs were allowed on the beach - as long as owners clean up after them)

This is one of the Black Hills gems. Beautiful lake with an easy path to enjoy it. Family friendly with a General store close by for fun stuff to buy to remind you of the trip.

Beautiful and plenty of trout to be caught! The family hike around the lake checking out rock formations and gemstones while a few of us were completing a RECON for the hike of Harney Peak the following day. Great place for the whole family!

Family friendly and relaxing hike. A bit of a scramble in one section but nothing technical. I love going behind the backside of the lake and seeing if anyone is climbing the wall back there.

The trail provides lovely views of Sylvan Lake. The northeastern half the trail climbs over granite formations near the far end of the lake and includes a moderate elevation change. The southeastern half of the trail is completely flat.

The trail is family-friendly and is suitable for all ability levels.
