This was a very enjoyable hike along the creek. Beautiful views of the water and rock formations. We ran into a couple spots of fresh springs running off the hillside. We did cross the creek in a couple small areas, but nothing too challenging. We saw many families traveling this trail- old to young. The last mile of this trail leading to the lake is by gravel road. Once reaching the lake I suggest looking at the Centennial Map to see all the trail heads that are near or connect to the Centennial. There are also bathrooms and campsites once you reach the lake.

The trail was clear and dry on this beautiful day for a hike. It follows along a river with small waterfalls making for a peaceful hike. there are some twists and turns due to previous washouts, but nothing to difficult. Overall a great hike!

Trail conditions from Little Elk TH to Dalton on 4/6/19 were perfect. I was on the trail early am, so the ground was hard enough I had no problems with mud. Very little snow/ice on trail, and almost all areas could be stepped around. The creek is high but no obstructions of the trail. Absolutely perfect morning.

Nice hiking trail shared with mountain bikes and trail runners. Stay on wide track at start- don’t follow foot trail marked to the left as that will just take you down rabbit trails and dead ends. Keep dog on leash for safety of dog and mountain bikers.

Very beautiful hike and there was only few people on the trail. But if you decide to spend a day by the lake, be prepare to pay for a permit.

Little elk creek turns in to Dalton Lake trail once you hit the white rock road about 3 miles into it. The last .3 miles is all road, not trail, so that's a little less than ideal, but still a beautiful hike.

This is the same trail listed as Little Elk Creek. It follows the stream and has several pretty little waterfalls.
