The trailhead is actually just before 9703 with no parking except along the road. This map is very accurate. A trail goes past the no motorized vehicles sign into the canyon. You will find many scenic views following the canyon.

Gorgeous trail! Can be difficult to find the start. Beautiful anytime of the year.

This hike is gorgeous. It's definitely hard to get to and can be difficult to follow the trail. If it's rained recently, expect to risk wet feet in the many creek crossings. The variety of vegetation makes it feel like a jungle. As far as difficulty goes, I'd say the hike itself is mostly easy. Following the trail can be tricky, but the part down in the canyon is not at all tiring. Once you get up onto the atv trail, parts are steep and you'll be working hard. All in all, one of the best hikes in the black hills area.

I was at Botany Canyon this morning I came in through the Northeast side of the canyon I did not have to contend with any steep hills it was a beautiful Trail nice and cool in the canyon unique and diverse plant life was abundant many stream Crossings nothing too hard I was disappointed that I found many lady slipper orchids but all of them were out of Bloom it seems I am about 1 month late to see the orchids in full bloom I will definitely return next year the first part of June

A great hike, but man it was a pain to find the trail throughout the canyon! Very peaceful and lightly used.

Trail was neat. It is not hard to find, but there is no trailhead sign or parking. You follow an offroad/logging road for awhile. You come to area where rocks are placed to keep motor vehicles off the trail. Once down in the canyon, it is a old rock bed. Make sure to have plenty of water. On a sunny day it gets quite warm while hiking. It is cool once following the stream of water and are in the under brush. Definitely a more difficult trail. Stat in trail, poison ivy is off the trail. Better know what it looks like.

This is a difficult trail no doubt but it is more than worth it once you're in the canyon, especially after the road sign at the end of the dry river bed.
