Excellent hike! I recommend starting very early in the morning, cooler weather and much less traffic on the trails. Views from atop the tower are stunning.

Trail #9 to the Harney Fire House at peak should be on the top 5 list for Custer State Park. It was a little work moving upward, long for the novice hikers, but rewarding at the top. I would warn that little kids not conditioned for long and strenuous hikes will not like this one AND taking water is a MUST. We saw too many hikers unprepared, no water, and huffing and puffing too early in the hike. So... take water and enjoy the views. Beautiful trail -- took our family of five 3 hours including about 20-30 minutes at the top. Don't miss the trails at the top to the dammed water pool.

Headed out around 7 am! The peak showed great rock formations and the morning sun lit them nicely! Was a good workout, but we never got too hot or tired! I'd consider myself a novice hiker. There is a $20/week for the state park if you were unawares. Between the trails and lakes I think it was worth every penny! Make sure you bring water and maybe a snicky snack! I drank about 50 oz.

Beautiful trail, no bugs. The weather went from sunny and 80 to overcast, thunder, a little rain and a little hail. Make sure everyone in your group packs plenty of water. Everyone is friendly all dogs were on a leash. 7-2-20

Lots of bugs and horse poop. But the views from the top make it worth it. What an incredible hike

Great view of the entire area from the top! Well worth the trip even though the climb to the summit was taxing. Took us about 3.5 hrs which included some time time to recoup and enjoy the view from up top.

This is a dog-friendly hike but horses are allowed on the trails as well. Great views but not for anyone challenged by stairs

Awesome. #27 for us and #11 for Buddy 'Sniffs' the dog. State park is awesome, took us by surprise at how great it was. Should have spent way more time here!

This is really beyond a state park level beauty. A little bit long to get to the peak but everything worth it!

One of my favorites. I hiked the trail around sun rise and had very little contact with others. On my way back down the traffic of people going to summit started to pick up. Go early and enjoy it on your own.
