Hiking

Trail head and intersections are not well marked. Waterfalls and creeks are beautiful, but the end of the trail is anticlimactic. A whole lot of up to get to no real view.

Middle section was boring but enjoyed both circling the lake and the miles deep in along the creek.

HikingGreat!

Great alternative to Jones Gap when they are full. Nice lake to walk around, great bridges to cross and a couple waterfalls. The pinnacle is kind of anticlimactic with noting to see but gets the exercise job done. Definitely will be back again!

HikingGreat!

Trail was in great shape and well blazed, with the exception of around the lake, where many old trails come together and could use some better marking. A very nice hike, not difficult, with a moderate grade.

markers aren't as clear on which way to go once you get near the top, longer than the 5.6 it claims.

overgrown with poison ivy in some spots. but I loved the hike. one very nice waterfall and several small ones. a couple of small creek crossings. incline was pleasant. no big view. no big finish, just intersects with another trail. I would love to do this one again in the fall.

Nice trail- steady uphill with some small creek crossings. I can see where it could be muddy after some rain but we had no issues today. Very quiet as we were one of the first on the trail this morning.

Hiking

Good trail but there are a lot of loose rocks. Can be a little dangerous in the winter due to leaf cover over the top of the rocks. We liked the pond loop, it was worth the extra distance.

There is some elevation, but mostly a smooth climb/descent on a wide, mostly flat trail. The lake is gorgeous. I'd recommend extending your hike to the river along Pinnacle Pass trail.

Beautiful trail and highly recommended. Trail head is to the left of the parking area. Two beautiful waterfalls along the way. The trail is well marked and minimally over grown. Only one tree blocking the trail; you can climb over it on the side closest to the edge of the hill. Hiking this trail is a great way to spend a day.

I started in the parking area - chose to go to the right where trail comes to a T shortly after beginning- hiked around the lake. I found a few primitive camp sites off the path. I came to an intersection - another T. I chose the gravel path to the right and ended back up at my car. There were no trail head signs for West Fork. No blazes that I could see. I did pass a trail head marker for Oil Camp Creek. I logged 2.74 miles in this loop. Maybe the path going left at the second T would have been better....? Overall I enjoyed the hike, but it needs better marking.

We hiked almost every trail at Ashmore Heritage Preserve that day, and saw many great sites. We started on the lower trail (Gold) that leads to the highway, saw a cool small waterfall and then looped around the lake while also taking the small deer path to the Ashmore Falls base. Then hiked to the top of Chandlers Rock to cap off the day. Chandlers Rock had an amazing view and we were alone taking it all in for about an hour. Awesome!
