Reedy Branch Falls is a 1.1 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Long Creek, South Carolina that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking.
This was a bonus hike today suggested by Dick Metzgar on our way back from hiking the Winding Stairs Trail. Jenny did a little research and found a short article on it on the discoversouthcarolina.com web site which said, "the property was going to be developed for home sites, only the US Forest Service bought it before the first house was ever built." Anyway, it's a very short hike through the rock-walled gate to the waterfalls which are really beautiful coming off a 30-foot mini-canyon wall surrounding it. The recent and historical heavy rains have really washed out a lot of the area below the falls including a former vehicle bridge across Reedy Branch leading to the now drained pond downstream. However, it does appear that one could rock-hop across Reedy Branch to continue a hike toward the former pond. There is a newly constructed bridge across Reedy Branch above the washout which allows access to the falls. A nice short walk if you have limited time or are abilities. Definitely worth the stop and walk.
It only takes .2 to see this fall. It is pretty and worth the quick stop. We didn’t follow the map beyond as it seemed to just go along a pond/lake and then stop.
Some creek bank restoration being done on road to falls and around former pond/current wetlands. Nice winter walk.
Gorgeous waterfall! Trail is undergoing construction but falls still look awesome.
Short hike to beautiful falls. we took the other little trail since it was a nice day for a stroll. Great hike for toddlers or "getting older" people like me with bad and stiff joints Was very doable and enjoyable! Rocky on some places but no roots to trip you up. If you want to take the other little hike, you do have to cross a stream.
It's a short .5mi hike round trip if that. Trails are wide with a new bridge to cross the stream. We had the place all to ourselves.
The walk to the waterfall is very short. We went in to find the small lake. The lake is no longer there. It appeared that the dam has been removed and there is only the stream flowing through the area. It’s a quiet place to hike and we didn’t see any other hikers along the way.
Trail is very short to the falls. They are lovely. As for the rest of the trail, we looked for the lake. Ended up it was a former fish hatchery and lake. You can see the gravel beds and wooden crate setup. We found a lot of mountain lion scat and other evidence of them around the dried up lake. Fun day hike for kids - as long as they aren’t bait lol.
I give the destination 4 stars. It’s less than a quarter mile to the falls. But the Forest Service has been doing some cleanup and repairs. Down where the two branches meet there is a lot of straw on the old roadbed.
Waterfall is beautiful and a great short hike to them. However, after Hurricane Zeta, the area has been washed out, a lot of vegetation is gone as well as the bridge crossing the creek to the falls. We placed some extra rocks in the creek but it's slippery getting down to them so
Short hike with a beautiful waterfall. Great for the family. Did rain over the weekend, so it was a little muddy.
For a quick hike to a beautiful waterfall, this is great! There’s a small pull of that leads to a gate, which is where the short trail begins. Note: don’t waste your time going all the way to the pond. Take the left at the fork and make your way to the waterfall. It’s pretty and it’s easy to access. It’s less than 1/2 mi. round trip.
If you are looking for a very short hike to a waterfall, then this hike is for you. Reedy Branch Falls is a 30 foot high waterfall located just off of Highway 76. You will turn onto a gravel road with a stacked stone gate at Forest Road #2751. The trail head is just beyond the stone gate which you will travel downhill for approximately 1/4 mile to reach the waterfall. Cross the bridge on the left and you should be able to see the waterfall just ahead.
