December 23, 2020. Nice easy trail. I took a side trail that looked like it might take me to the stunning falls that you can see from the lake, but the trail goes up above the falls and I was not brave enough to go off trail to find the falls. (Was hiking alone today.)
Great trail. Beautiful fall colors right now and not overly crowded - especially if you start early. The summit was nothing special but the waterfalls were lovely. As others said, the rocks on the trail being covered by leaves made it just a little tricky but not really a big deal. Several trees down across the trail but easily crossed.
Great trail- although we got lost. Not any blazes for the lake loop unfortunately other than a few arrow signs
Always a great. Get there early. It tends to get busier during the day on the weekend. But it’s still a great hike for solitude
The big rocks on the trail were a small nuisance but it’s a nice little trail.
Good hike but start of trail has lots of loose stones. Be careful
Still some wildflowers blooming, but seeing the first color. Only ones on the trail on a Tue morning!
Big rocks are a little annoying to walk on but the lake is pretty and it’s a quick easy hike that my 2 and 4 year old enjoyed. Saw flowers, fish, salamanders, frogs, etc. Will do it again.
Pretty trail with lots of shade. The loop has tons of heavy golf ball sized gravel, which is probably great for roads and driving on but it is awful to run or hike on it. Be careful you don’t roll and ankle, and if you’re a minimalist runner, expect some bruised feet if aren’t careful. Two lovely waterfalls definitely make the single track out-and-back portion of the trail worth it. There are tons of side trails, so it can easy to miss a turn if you aren’t paying close attention.
My hubby and I are 59 & 58 years old, respectively. I’m in very good shape; he’s had some health challenges and is not very fit. This trail was not particularly challenging for me, but it was pretty darned difficult for him. We took the route to the left of the lake going in, which wasn’t too bad as the downward slope was fairly gradual. The lake views were gorgeous, and we really enjoyed it, although it was rather warm and humid. We even caught a glimpse of the waterfall, but it would be better viewed in winter or early spring when the leaves have fallen. The trail on the way back was very steep and pretty rocky. Not too bad for me, but pretty rough on hubby. We had to stop frequently so he could catch his breath and rest his low back. I’ve seen many comments about the rocky trail. We didn’t find that to be too much of a problem, but we both had on decent hiking boots. I do not recommend trying this hike in flip-flops, sneakers, or Crocs. You’ll need a sturdy sole and some ankle support. We took our time, and completed the lake loop in about 90 minutes.
Very beautiful and well marked trail. The lake is small but a gem to behold. This trail is marked as moderate I guess due to some steep sections but it is quite amenable for kids and beginner hikers. This nice hike is very accessible and easy to find and really a cool getaway for anyone living in the Greenville/Spartanburg area.
