Chester State Park rests in the quiet hills of the South Carolina Piedmont and for generations has offered retreat and recreation to the surrounding communities. The park's 523 acres include a 160-acre lake, itself surrounded by a two-mile nature trail through the pine forest. Boat rentals are popular in the warmer months and the park also offers picnicking, camping, archery and a place to simply enjoy the serenity of the placid setting. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the park and its work can still be seen and enjoyed today. The community building is heavily used year-round, adding to the secluded park's value as a place to both gather and get away. There are numerous picnic tables along the lakeshore, a kids playground and restrooms. Dogs must be kept on leashes and as always, there is a $2 per person fee to enter all SC state parks.

My go to trail on the way home after night shift (7:30am). The trail to the dam offers scenery and a few challenging areas but an overall easy ride to get the blood pumping. You can also ride the disc golf trail to get more mileage in, although none of the trails (hiking trail included) are marked for mountain bikes. I ride the entrance road, through the camp grounds to enter the trail. Then I ride to the dam and follow the trail back to the parking area. Then over the bridge and back - around the loop a couple of times to make 5 miles. Will add the disc golf trails next time.

far end by the spillway is confusing, trail does not seem to continue. you may have to pass over the creek, but at high water levels this is not possible.

This is a nice, flat wooded trail that circles around the lake . There are various activities within the park, but I usually camp for a couple of nights and take advantage of the camping, hiking and fishing. The campsites are very nice w/water and electricity for those not wanting to "rough it." I have hiked the trail numerous times and have never found it to be crowded. The park does have some traffic in summer and during deer season.
