Offline map recommended. Users have reported that the trail is not marked well.
The back 1/2 of the trail is much more interesting & enjoyable than the first 1/2. There are some nice glacial erratics & a couple of homestead foundations as well. The trail is closer to 5.2mi & is fairly easy. Not well marked but if you keep an eye on the map you’ll have no problems.
Top comment is make sure you have the map downloaded and open because it is extremely easy to lose the trail. There are loads of trails to send you off the trail you're on. Also found a few spots where blow downs blocked the trail or hid a turn in the trail. DO NOT trust any blazes you see because this trail changed blaze colors several times and blazes only cover some of the trails. So for the good part. It was a really nice hike with really good water views and many interesting old stone foundations and walls. This area was obviously a busy area at one time. Trails were clear with fews spots being narrow and overall pretty level for the most part making this hike easy. Even though its listed as medium it really isn't...it's easy.
I love this trail. It is one that you need to keep your eye on the map in certain places...I've lost my way before because there are so many trails. Nothing major, but be aware. Wear orange. I heard a lot of shots today.
Unmarked trail. So many offshoots we totally got turned around and went the wrong way. Ended up just following Tarbox Pond around back to the car
Easy trail, a bit of boring at times to be fair but good views of the lake. Not well marked until second half so download the map.
The fall is truly a magical time. Leaves falling, amazing scents, acorns dropping (which actually adds a bit to the creep factor). Wear orange. I heard gunshots, but they didn't seem intensely close. Saw a deer bound away from me. I told it to run fast, as people with guns are about. One of my favorite hikes. The only downfall, is the beginning of the trail where it is littered with people's garbage and broken glass. It gets better the further you hike.
I enjoy these trails though I always end up taking the wrong path back due to how many there are. Either way easy not to get lost because of the location of the ponds. Will be back again probably next week. Very few trail markers, so keep an eye on your GPS.
Okay, first thing, down load the map! Good lord it's easy to get off trail. This hike is barely marked. There are so many little trails that lead off in other directions that it definitely gets confusing and can lead you astray. But, it's so worth it! Such a pretty hike with changing terrain and even a few inclines. Very nice ponds, plus an old quarry, glacial erratics and foundations from homesteads of days gone by.
For me, this hike was magical. The terrain was varied and I only passed a few people, all were on mountain bikes. It was just the right amount of uphill. Make sure you download the map. This may seem like a given, but I didn't and only realized it until I was about a half mile off course. There are so many little trails, referring to the map to stay the course is a must! Lesson learned!
A nice challenging hike, the pond was beautiful! Definitely one of my favorites.
There are no markers or blazes to be found. The trails are cleared and mostly well surfaced but numerous trails crossing each other make this a Lewis and Clark type adventure. You’ll need GPS or old school compass and sense of direction to get you back to your starting point. Elevation changes are not frequent or steep so a good hike for folks that can cover distance but are challenged by climbs.
Great trail. It was cold and rainy so with an orange raincoat and waterproof hiking boots I was food to get. A basically easy trail with a lot of picturesque scenes along the way if you take some of the small side trails. Very muddy and many deep puddles but with the correct gear it was actually fun. I would recommend this for hiking and also for biking which I intend to do first chance I get.
Decent hike! A bit muddy and overgrown, not very scenic, but a good sweat session for the average hiker. Be sure to use the app though, as it is not well marked.
