Vereda La Mina is a 1.5 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Campamento Zarzal, Puerto Rico that features a waterfall. The trail is rated as moderate and primarily used for hiking and walking. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
This is an out and back trail (0.7 mi each way). Awesome waterfalls for swimming. Very heavy traffic.
Beautiful hike and well maintained trail. Took about one hour round trip not including the time spent at the Mina falls. If possible, start the hike as early in the day as possible as the trail gets really crowded and it is a single track trail.
Lots of steps down and lots of steps back. Well worth it.
I came down the Big Tree trail to the falls, and came up this trail. This is a very different hike, as the previous trail was on a hillside and among trees, while this trail stayed close to water, and the ever present flow of the stream over rocks and into pools. It was a great counterpoint to the other trail, and I recommend combining the two to get the full experience.
There is a lot of stairs really easy to go down hard to go up the fall is very pretty we saw a couple of small brds
It was a quick 25-minute walk down in elevation following a river on a thin cement & rock paved trail. The falls at the end of the trail were cool, but a little anti-climatic. The walk back up is a lot of stairs for about 30 minutes, so you should be in fairly good shape to handle it. That said, I was in hiking boots but a lot of kids and older folks were in flip flops and bathing suits or having picnics in their everyday clothes. It was a good short 1-hour hike to get some exercise in for the day but nothing too impressive.
Beautiful, quick trail. We were able to squeeze it in the morning before we flew home from SJU in the afternoon.
Simply beautiful. I'm a waterfall junkie and this one is well worth the short hike.
There are two trails that lead down to La Mina Falls, the La Mina Falls Trail and Big Tree trail. They are almost the same distance (I think La Mina is a little shorter), but La Mina Trail is nice because the trail follows the La Mina river most of the way. To start at La Mina Trail, just make sure you pass the Big Tree parking lot and keep going up Hwy 191 until you get to La Mina Trail. You can also make this a loop hike if you incorporate Hwy 191 into your hike. The hike itself is awesome as it has many little waterfalls and pools to swim in and also the gorgeous La Mina Falls. Make sure to bring water shoes (you can buy them cheap at Walmart) so you can explore around the different falls and pools without hurting your feet on the rocks.
This trail is in El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico. Per Wikipedia, it is the only tropical rain forest in the United States National Forest System. This is a hike to a fantastic waterfall. Out and back trail (0.7 mi each way). Awesome waterfalls for swimming. Very heavy traffic.
