Rail-Trail conversion with a remote, free campsite. (7 miles) The Roundbottom Camping area (mile 47.8) is one of only a few free campsites along the Youghiogheny River Trail. Located 3 miles upriver from Layton the only access is along the trail. There are picnic benches and porta-johns but no water pump (that I am aware of). The TOPO! Overlay file included with this review contains data for the entire 70 miles of the Youghiogheny River Trail from McKeesport to Confluence.
Great overnight camping trip with my oldest son and his friend from West Milton to Ohio Pyle on Yough River in '99. I believe we tent camped at Round Bottom -- a great experience for two 12 year old kids and a crazy dad. The only reason I rate it less than a 4 or 5 was that overall "numb" feeling. They were pretty well spent by the time they hit Ohiopyle in the "rain."
