The purple trail is very steep and rugged. Only did 1/2 mile before turning back because even though I was dying ( out of shape) the mosquitos were very aggressive and I couldn’t enjoy the walk not even for one minute without swatting my face and neck. The bug spray was not helpful.

Solid moderate hiked. It’s marked ok, sort of confusing at the top. Good for dogs on leash.

We love this trail. However it would be nice if other hikers were considerate and also wore a mask when they pass on narrower trails...

Great trail! Challenging going up but totally worth it! Lots of little trails that connect! Will explore again. Keep in mind - parking area sucks!

The views are amazing. Really enjoyed the trails, however we got lost a few times. The trail markers are a little confusing.

Parked at the trail head and followed the orange and purple blazes then just the orange up to the witches hat. The lower trail is great but the hill is constant straight up. Definitely took some effort. We were a hot sweaty mess. The trail gets confusing at the road. But from the road just go straight up the power line for the easiest access.

trail on this map is difficult to follow, ended up off path several times. wants you to walk on the road, and we missed that. overall, very good exercise.

Nice trail, well marked for the most part. The path I had planned to take was marked closed for hunting and there were signs to follow the white blazes with red centers. I missed the turn from the main trail onto the detour as it headed up the mountain, but once I realized and backtracked a bit, the blazes were plentiful. still a bit difficult to tell exactly where to step, but that was due more to the leaf litter than to any marking issues. There aren't any scenelic overlooks until you get up to the top, but the view of the woods and some of the stone outcrops are worth taking a moment. You can see the Pagoda and a view of the city from the Witch's Hat pavilion at the top, but the power lines in the way are a bit disappointing. I saw some people out with dogs on the lower part of the trail, and a couple of people in hunting orange on the upper trails, but overall not too crowded in early November. I'll definitely check it out again after the hunting season, I imagine it will be an especially nice little trek come Spring.

Great trail for the first hike of the season. Three sections are on the steep side but enough flat areas in between to recover. Beautiful view of Reading and the Pagoda from Witches Hat. Most of the trail is rock covered. Dogs enjoyed it too.
