I really like this trail. At times it was a little difficult to follow, and poorly market so I would recommend using a map or this app. There is some litter, but there are also some amazing views and very little traffic. I would definitely recommend this trail. Also there is a little cave that blows out very cold air so keep an eye out for that.

Great trail to test yourself on for the moderate level of Pa. Lots of rock, but still manageable. Very clean except for an old rusted and gutted vehicle frame tucked away, and a few old fixture buildings falling in. One really good overlook toward the end, but alot of great rock formations along the path. The paths are pretty well outlined and Gps worked well through the whole thing.

Not really a hiking trail - mostly a road for 4 wheelers. That said, there are good viewpoints, interesting building ruins, and beautiful rocky ridges. Considerable mud and pooling of water in lower areas. Blazing is terrible. All trails was a huge help navigating. It was worth a visit but there will not be a return trip to this loop road.

A lot of trash. Not really the best for hiking. Don’t recommend bringing dogs.

Mocanaqua Loop Trail has a little bit of everything:River views, ruins, forests, a hefty uphill and downhill, caves, tree fossils, giant boulders and cliff walls, culm piles, deep pits and chasms. Despite other reviews, the blazing was adequate even if unconventional and you had to pay attention. Definitely take a map. There was a lot of garbage around unfortunately.

Hiked trail, camped overnight, hiked in the early morning. This trail system has flaws, as many people have mentioned. But what is also has is potential. If you’re scrambling up the mountain to the top of the green/brown trail, it is steep and rocky, making a short hike exhausting. However, if you push through, the views from the top are certainly worth it. The initial section will leave you winded, and you may be tempted to turn around a go back. But rest on the mountain for a bit, and watch the hawks swoop over you. Realize that just as they have to be patient in searching for food, you ought to also be patient in your journey, and finish the loop. Personally, I feel like the real beauty starts on the other side of the ridge, when you are coming back down the mountain. Endless moss grows on the boulders and large outcrops, and every once in a while you can feel the cool breeze from one of the cave openings nearby. The pines get denser as you work your way out, mixed in with coal banks, but blue jays are known to inhabit this section, and I have seen 3-4 during a single hike. So that’s the good stuff. However, the trail is heavily littered in certain spots, and while I would argue that the trail is fairly well marked, the actual path itself is not very distinct, making it more difficult to follow, as you have to be on the lookout for markers instead of just intuitively following a path. The first few times I went here, I was discouraged due to the trash, nearby hunting, and difficulty of the hike. But I started to take action by taking a trash bag with me and picking up at least one bag full of trash on my way out. Something that is very helpful and takes little to no effort. Needs some work, sure. But it’s beautiful land, and any caretaking ought to be done by the people who use it, even if they’re not the people who trashed it.

TERRIBLE TRAIL , FROM HAVING TO WALK PAST A SEWER TREATMENT PLANT TO POOR TRAIL MARKING. CLIMB TO THE TOP TO SEE CULM BANKS AND DOWN THE OTHER SIDE TO A HUGE PARTY SPOT WITH GARBAGE EVERYWHERE AND A BUNCH OF TEENAGERS DRINKING. WILL NOT BE GOING BACK.

There is definitely room for improvement when it comes to the trail location and markings, but as long as your phone has juice it’ll be all right just follow the highlighted trail. There is still a little bit of snow when ice and some of the shaded area’s of the trail and a good amount of dampness and mud. I would not recommend most of this for a bike or motorcycle but for a quad most of it would be OK. There are some really nice views, and I bet if I were here in spring or summer I bet it’s really beautiful as well as early fall.
