Bike touringGreat!

Easy trail for a bike ride... mostly shaded, flat and woodsy with a lovely creek- this was our first time on the trail and we thoroughly enjoyed it :)

Mountain bikingGreat!

The Lower (pronounce like flower) Trail is a very nice 16+ mile trail that runs from Alexandria to near Canoe Creek State Park. There are a number of trail access points where you jump on. This trail offers good opportunities for seeing wildlife. Today's ride was a total of 6 whitetail deer bounding across the trail as we approached. Fortunately one waited long enough for me to grab a snapshot. It is a popular trail that gets busier as mid-morning turns into afternoon. Besides hiking and riding, horseback riding is also permitted.

A flat packed gravel & some asphalt trail. Perfect for biking, running, walking, & sightseeing. Well maintained. It's 34 miles round trip. Could go further but it was starting to get too hilly for me.

This was a very well maintained rail trail with benches every couple of miles. It’s great for kids. Very slight elevation gains. My 6yo was able to complete the trail starting in Williamsburg to Alfarata and back. Definitely a doable day ride for the little ones.

Great trail for biking, walking, or running. Very well maintained. It can be busy on nice weekends. If you leave from Williamsburg, the first couple miles is the trail are paved. Most of the trail is shady and there are benches along the way. Some of the bridges are neat, and at times you will see kayakers on the river.

Walking

I use this trail almost daily. It is great for walking or trail running and flat enough I can push my toddler in the stroller and my older kids can walk/run or ride their bikes. Great bird watching, especially in early May; great place to find cerulean warblers.

This is a wonderful and flat trail that’s perfect for running, walking, and riding bicycles. Especially for beginners. It follows the river and is very well maintained. I use the Lower Trail often.

Fell in love with this trail as a kid. Still love it! Shoutout to whomever owns those wonderful chickens that frequent the trail (PS they love mealworms haha).

Beautifull Trail I rode my horse on this Trail on a Father's Day weekend it was busy but the nice thing if you have a horse is that they provide a grassy Trail that was to the right of the main trail and sometimes the left it allows you to ride on that part and not be right on the asphalt and or stone dust trail that people ride and bicycle on. also on that weekend something was blooming along the river that smelled absolutely heavenly very very pretty Trail.

Stumbled onto this place after getting directions and a great beer and burger at the bar along the river in Alexandria. Only went 4 miles from the parking lot up river to the big bridge over the river and 4 miles back. It was warm and muggy so took advantage of the river and went in for a dip. Don't worry about a swim suit as it's a very quite ride up that far and the bridge is high over the river. Got back to the car in the lot just as it was getting dark. The bugs were becoming annoying as the sun went down. Beautifully groomed and smooth. Perfect for a leisurely ride along the river on a lazy day. Starting at Alexandria and heading up river makes for a nice "downhill" ride on the way back, although the whole trail is only a slight grade as it follows the river. I want to make the whole trip someday.

That trails is so easy that if you wanna do mountain biking this place is the one to start with. It's easy, flat on ups or downs, and in a wonderful scenic area. It's about 13 miles long but never worry about doing it. It's so easy that you can do in your first or second visit. It has many rest places and it passes by houses, playgrounds , and a gas station.

Bring the whole family on this one! Easy and level ground, many places to stop and observe nature, picnic, fish, swim. All types of trail users can be found throughout the trail. Hikers, backpackers, bikers, runners, and horse riders. You will be walking along the river and see a multitude of conoes, kayaks, and inner tubes enjoying the Frankstown Branch of the Juniata River. Don'tbe afraid to bring the little ones. You will see many people with strollers or kidson the shoulder's. If hte kids wan to walk they can handle the terrain as well as anyone else. The foundation is constantly improving the trail system with pavillions, restrooms and excellent maintenance with the help and cooperation of PA Department of Natural Resources. You won't be disappointed.

First to Review

This is the first rail trail I've ever biked... The trail is very smooth and even paved for a few miles. Very peaceful and scenic I try to go at least twice a month when the weather is nice.
