The nice thing about this trail, is you can walk next to someone nearly the entire time. You are "near" the lake for possibly a half mile. There is two vistas, which are nice, but I was hoping for more.

The downfall, is I felt almost half of this trail was in someones back yard. Plus, a walk through town. It was a little awkward. It is not well marked on the stroll through town part, so we referenced a great blog to get us through the remainder. http://gonehikin.blogspot.com/2012/11/mauch-chunk-lake-park-to-jim-thorpe-pa.html?m=1

The shorter version of this is to climb Mount Pisgah (we did about 3.5 from downtown Jim Thorpe and back so total of about 6-7 miles). We started behind the Jim Thorpe old junior high school off center street, there's a path with a blue water tank set up on the beginning of the trail you can see from the road.. we took that up to the Coal mining incline landmark, where there was a great vista for a lunch spot.. then took the rest of the path toward the lake but instead of going all the way to the lake we stopped at the Indian Springs (the path has a path that goes off and uphill to the right about 1 mile past the coal landmark). Overall a great half day hike!
