Great running/hiking trail to see the overall landscape of both the Springfield Trail and Leiper-Smedley Trails! Takes you from Springfield to Swarthmore and back (never retraces its route).
Entrance is behind the funeral home, uphill half a block, and then down an almost hidden bit of stairs. See first pic. Some steep areas, have to cross over streams. Can hear the cars a bit. Only went in about a mile (30 mins) and then back the way I came.
This is a great trail if you want to look at your phone the whole time to make sure you don’t get lost. There were lots of parts that you either walked on a sidewalk along the road or along a highway. Not a peaceful quiet route. There were a few points of interest but nothing memorable. Definitely moderate level hiking, nothing particularly challenging.
Overall a great trail, but I definitely had some challenges going the right way. Lots of paths crisscrossing in some areas. Also it took me forever to find the trail entrance as the coordinates took me to a funeral home, but the entrance is actually about 1/2 way up the street beside the funeral home. Some parts of the loop are super easy while others a bit more challenging. A great blend with lots to see.
Definitely not a moderate trail, for experts only
