Riverview-Irongate-Firelane Loop: shortly after starting you are scrambling up a hill on a steep shale washout deer trail. Iron Gate makes for a better biking trail with it’s steep embankments put in for mountain bikers, but still hikeable and good for rough trail runners. Some portions of the route are semi paved or graveled, but overall the route is a steep dirt path that is challenging, especially in wet conditions. Lots of intersections with other trails if it gets too challenging. Some parts are not well traveled so use caution.

Trail has a tough uphill climb and scramble though a wash. Lots of slate and crumbly terrain before you get on a more maintained trail. The decent on this route of Jay’s Short Cut Trail is steep and has a lot of switchbacks- it’s primarily a mountain biking trail. Those are two tricky parts and could be tougher in wet or snowy weather. Lots of options though to move to more maintained trails throughout.
