This Michaux State Forest trail contains some steep climbs. The entire park can be viewed from the Pole Steeple Overlook, which is a quartzite rock outcropping. The trail begins at the Pole Steeple parking lot, along the Railroad Bed Road by Laurel Lake, and proceeds up to the rocky overlook.

My kids and I have done this a couple of times. It's listed as moderate, but there are two trails about half way up. One is steep and the other is moderate. we've done them both. We have been fortunate, because it's never been crowded when we've gone. You do need to watch for snakes on the rocks. We haven't seen any recently, but they are there

Nice calm laid-back trail. Too many people along the rock view. The mountain creek trail is beautiful with some small sand areas to rest

Right past laurel lake on the back side you pass the beautiful dam &lake park on the right where it says pole steeple parking theres picnic tables &a lake view if u want to enjoy that as well then right across from the parking lot your hike begins! At first its pretty rocky and steep but in the middle theres an option to take a steeper/harder climb or a moderate trail which I took! Its a quick relatively easy hike with easy to read signs &directions and the view is beautiful!!!!!!! Also theres about 4 log benches for u to stop and rest if need be! Definitely recommend (:

This is a trail to take your time on. It is an incline the whole way up. There is a steep side and a moderate side. The steep side will take you up on the rocks directly and the moderate side will be going around the rocks. Nice overlook. On the rocks, please pick up your trash.

The trail took about an hour, and we passed a lot of families with kids and dogs. The views and boulders at the top are certainly worth it, but definitely all incline to get to the vista. The trail split for "moderate" or "steep" which was helpful so you could challenge and pace yourself. There was a top roping rock climbing area too, for more adventurous climbers- I hope to come back to this spot someday when I can rally up some more knowledgeable climber friends with the right gear

Picked a beautiful, sunny day in February to do this hike. We went up the AT (more of a gradual climb) out to the vistas, then down Pole Steeple and on Mountain Creek trail for a nice 7.5 mile loop. We parked near the park office. The rocks were awesome and views were gorgeous. Highly trafficked but definitely worth it. I would recommend going up the AT and making a loop.

Did this on Feb 4th, up Pole Steeple to the AT, south to the road bed and then Mountain Creek Trail back to the car in just a bit over two hours (4.35 miles). Going to use this as a training loop for the Crooked Compass Adventure Trek in April. Trail was in good condition. I took the moderate route rather than scrambling over the rocks only because it was longer. Came across several downed trees on the AT but none on this trail. I will be back weekly through the end of March. Views were nice with no leaves, but I assume you can see nothing of the lake or the next line of peaks once the leaves come on. No other hikers when I started in the morning, but three more cars came after I parked.

Great for a short and semi-challenging hike!

This hike was super fun! While it appears to be a "short" hike it’s actually about the same workout as a long hike! At one point on the trail it splits between a moderate trail to the top or the steep trail to the top, I took the steep one as I loved the idea of rock climbing to get up there but wouldn’t recommend it for people scared of heights or not familiar with rock climbing! Lastly, the top was so rewarding, absolutely stunning views!!

Beautiful morning to hike up and enjoy magnificent view. The air was clear and sun at our backs when we reached the top. Crossed paths with about 10 other hikers - nicely spaced & wishing happy new year. Then hike to AT and down to Mountain Creek Trail back to Laurel Lake. Trails well marked and maintained - water and snack suggested.

Love this cute trail - have been doing it since I was a kid, and just brought my 8 year old and 1 year old. Easy parking, fun (optional) rock scramble at the top. Lovely views.

Nice trail but it is a pill on the leg out. There’s a steep section and a moderate section that is well marked. Views for top the steeple are gorgeous. Easy access to the AT… only a couple hundred yards. Could access this point using the AT from Pine Creek furnace park.

Short but steep enough to get your heart going right away. The view at the top makes it worth it. I recommend taking the steep route unless you have children
