North Park has a beautifully scenic 75-acre lake in the heart of the park. The 5 mile loop trail trail around the lake is well used by walkers, joggers, runners, cyclists, dog walkers, and skaters all year long. Upgrades to the lake trail are intended to improve trail safety for users while providing them with an opportunity to explore and experience the park's varied ecology.

This loop is crowded with tons of people walking, jogging, biking, etc. You’re pretty much walking on a road with cars passing so it’s not a nature hike.

Basic loop circling the lake, neither terrible or amazing. This trail suits what it’s made for, i.e; cycling, walking, running. Plenty of rest areas (pavilions, benches). Areas to stretch a hammock and relax as well. Car traffic is consistent but not threatening.

This is just a walk/run/bike trail around the North Park lake. You're on the road for the duration. That said, I go there for two reasons: to run the loop and to enjoy a drink at the OTB boathouse! One of my favorite ways to spend a late Saturday morning!

Have hiked and hiked this trail several times. Very easy to follow around the lake. Plenty of spots to take breaks and enjoy the lake if desired. Very crowded.

Nice views and plenty of pavilions to take a break. Only downside is your basically walking on the road the whole time as cars pass by. Doesn’t make you feel like you’re in a park.

Pretty area to ride. But tight to ride with walkers constantly on the bike lane.

Beautiful day for the lake loop and catching up with a friend. We saw two bald eagles and met some passionate members of the North Park Eagle Club who were taking photos. Weekday so not as much traffic as the weekend.

This should be listed as heavily trafficked. Summer evenings and weekends there are a lot of people. Not a good time for riding a bike. There are a lot of people who run and walk in the bike lanes, and they don't follow the rules. Many are inexperienced and don't move over no matter how much you scream "on your left!" All of the path is right next to traffic. However the views are nice, and during less busy times biking is quite nice.

There are a couple hills that challenge me. But I'm not the strongest biker. I love this trail and do it often. Since your are riding next to traffic, wear your helmet

It’s not a trail, it’s literally a road. It’s an easy ride and scenic! My favourite place to ride and the lake is beautiful!

Hey, it's walking along the side of the highway through the park. There are nice bits to it, but it's rather dull otherwise. I will say the bike and walking lanes are well marked. There's plenty of traffic along this loop, both from bikers and walkers and people just going by in their cars. I started at the boathouse and worked my way around clockwise. Occasionally there's a little bit of an incline here and there, but nothing that will drain you of any real energy. It's really just an endurance of basically every other walk you've probably had in your life expanded into something a little longer. It is good for kids, though, and there are a few playgrounds along the way as well as various pavilions to take a break if you need one.

This is what everyone thinks about when you mention North Park. It is an easy though long-ish walk depending on the speed of your party. The majority of the path is beside a road and fairly removed from the lake or woods. It is also very popular so expect lots of families, joggers, dogs, etc. There are some lovely views, especially of the Boathouse, and it's fun to see all the different people enjoying the park too. It is nice when you want an easy walk to maybe chat with friends but there are better trails if you want a real work out or be more immersed in nature.

this is my favorite trail....

Sun Apr 22 2018

Really just a sidewalk or shoulder along a moderate to high traffic road. Fairly accessible but not at all what I look for in a trail.

great flat-ish paved trail. safe, and lots of other people out using it

Easy loop. Mostly flat. Designated walking and cycling lanes. Heavy traffic on weekends, but light very early in the morning. Nice bar restaurant on the lake as a great option to refuel.

Lots of traffic (people and vehicles) on busy days. Mostly flat and completely paved.

very heavily trafficked. it's all along roadways, so if you have a dog that scares easily, this is not the walk for you...

Easy 5 mile loop on paved road. Heavily used by cyclists, runners, walkers and dogs. Good views of the lake and surrounding wooded hills.

Nice paved and maintained 5 mile loop around the lake in North Park. They now have the OTB cafe open, kayak rentals, and the GoAPE outdoor climbing park. Nice and maintained, kid and family friendly park just north of Pittsburgh.
