Great trail! We were about to cancel the trip, because it was thundering, but then, the storm turned into a light summer drizzle and so we continued to our destination! And yes, as many said before, the paths were a bit muddy, especially because it had just rained before we headed on. Also, the trails were not marked very well, but it was definitely an adventure! We ended up hiking to the top of the mountain, and there was some beautiful flowers up there. Though the sun was shining on us, there was a cool breeze and quite a sight! The paths can be rocky, so watch your step, I tripped once and got all muddy. The only thing is that sometimes you may hear some gunshots because there is a hunting area nearby. As we headed into the paths we heard some frequent shooting, but it then stopped as we continued our adventure. We will definitely be back, my family had such a good time here! There are some people along the paths, but we only saw a few people. Plus, the parking slots were quite full. But definitely recommend!

This is a great gem close to Pittsburgh. Great workout and well maintained. Cave is cool. Advice, don’t venture in too far without a map. AllTrails kept us on path but it can get confusing back there.

Parking was full so had to go to the Downing Dr entrance. Relatively quiet hike through the woods. We ended up doing the Meeks Run trail as well as going up the Cave trail to see the cave. There is a tiny waterfall along the way too. It was fine, but didn’t stand out with anything particularly great.

This trail is VERY well maintained and it was a pleasure to hike. Definitely do the loop “backwards” (stay to the left to start); that way if you get turned around during the crazy parts you’ll have energy. After you get through the switchbacks the path is pretty clear. Plus, when you go this way the end of your hike is mostly flat & descending. BIG perk if you’re hiking with doggos: this route puts the creek and waterfalls at the end so they can frolic and have fun! Absolutely loved the shade and the quiet forest hike; looking forward to coming back.

great trail with a mix of scenery- entirely wooded areas, flowered fields, bridges, creeks, elevated views, a waterfall, a cave, even a century-old oil well

Don’t underestimate the other reviews lol. This trail is very poorly blazed and the AllTrails map is all over the place. We got lost multiple times and ended up backtracking a ton, which tired us out and made it much longer than it actually needed to be so we were exhausted for the last half. We had to go straight through the creek and go off trail for about a quarter mile to figure out where AllTrails was taking us, even though we stuck to the path the whole time. That said, the trail was very pretty and not overly busy. Not very muddy even though we went the day after a heavy storm. Several branches blown down as a result though. The cave was super cool!

This one kind of has it all. Unlike other trails where you feel like you’re just wandering aimlessly through the woods, with this one you feel like you’re climbing to get to the top of something. Beautiful scenery and some nice elevation changes. Also, if you follow this trail in the opposite direction that is suggested, you are rewarded with the cave and some nice water elements at the end. But I like it in the suggested direction, too. Only negatives are that it is heavily trafficked (especially with mountain bikers) and can be hard to see around corners when the vegetation is in full bloom.

Overall very nice. Today was a first time visit, got a little turned around at one point so I ended up circling part of the trail twice. Other than that the path is pretty straightforward if you do a little planning ahead. Will definitely be back again.

Some small but picturesque Waterfalls. A creek runs parallel to the trail. There’s also a protected area for frogs.

This review will echo some comments I e read in other reviews. Overall, this is a really good hike. The map for this trail is a mess. There are too many trails to take so unless you want to stare at your phone the whole time just go out & wonder around for a while. There are a lot of hills. I seemed to be go up or down most of the time. There was a decent amount of people there. Not constant but occasionally crossing paths. Make way for mountain bikers. You could keep going back & doing different hikes. There is a hunting area nearby do you might hear some rifle shots, but nothing to worry about.

Beautiful area but the trails are very poorly marked and it is very easy to get lost. My friend and I turned this hike into a 6 mile one, which I am not complaining about-always good to have extra exercise, but they could certainly do a better job marking the trails.

Great for mountain biking, but wouldn’t care to go back for hiking ... very poorly marked and gets confusing when coming to multiple intersections. Also, someone was hunting nearby and was shooting for majority of the time I was there and freaked out both of my dogs.

Enjoyable hike overall. Trails not are well marked, very easy to get a mile off the trail without realizing it. A bit muddy but they did a nice job with logs and bridges to keep your feet dry.
