Heritage Rail Trail is a 53.1 mile out and back trail located near York, Pennsylvania that features beautiful wild flowers. The trail is good for all skill levels offers a number of activity options.
Great if you enjoy getting some distance and scenery. The trail goes through several small towns, through farmland, wooded areas, over creeks, etc. It's a beautiful bike ride.
The trail is flat and easy, but I find it dull. You are forced to do out and back routes and there is not a lot of variety in the terrain. Also, it is generally crowded and I prefer the solitary running experience.
Beautiful fun shaded and watch out for the turkey crossing around mile 19!
Started in York City and Biked to Seven Valleys, stopped ice cream and a snack then finished the trail at the MD line. Had a early dinner then rode back to York City. Great trail, well maintained. Since it runs along a railroad there is never more than a few degrees of incline or decline. Great for all ages.
Really enjoy bike riding the trail. The MD side is more beautiful than PA side of course, but really easy bike riding and lots of towns to stop and grab lunch or something to drink for a all day ride.
Great trail would love to ride it again
There are several spots to get on this trail. Here is a link to the spots and the directions.
