Hawk Rock via Appalachian Trail is a 1.6 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Duncannon, Pennsylvania that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Steep elevation leads to nice views of the river and valley. Rocky throughout, but well marked and maintained on the A.T. The trail that makes this a loop is unmarked but was relatively easy to follow.
when you deal with hell during the dark time (work) and leave and go to a place you always see, but know the sky in the morning is forever changing you hike away to let your mind find your peace.
#2 Hike of the New Year. EXCELLENT way to spend my Sunday afternoon on 1/10/2021. A little congested towards the top of the mountain which made it sketchy due to the narrow rocky pathways and several icy spots. However, people were pleasant and considerated making space for others when needed. Dog friendly & free parking. Follow the white tree markers to get to the wonderful view at the top!! Just be careful! Completed hike just under 2 hours with 5-6 short rest breaks along the way.
Lovely short hike with a great view at the top. Hiked at noon - TON of (FREE) parking available in a giant dirt lot. 1.45hrs to hike it, and it was worth it. Moderate difficulty level is correct. Does get pretty rocky on some steep parts, so be VARY careful on your way down especially if it’s recently snowed.
Tips to folks going up in winter - main trail is generally fine, just watch your step. Once I got to the top, I followed the AT east toward a lower rock I heard about. Nice view of the Susquehanna and Peters (I think?) Mountain from the lower rock, but the trail below it was pretty steep and REALLY treacherous with ice and mud and a precipitous drop on one side. If you choose to go that way in the winter months, be SUPER careful.
Really nice hike with decent elevation. It’s a 2.1 mile loop but I was able to follow the AT trail and add another 1.5 miles to it. Foggy day and rain up top made it a little slippery coming down.
Nice to be in the woods. Once you reach the top portion of the trail, you can't hear the traffic so enjoy it!
