Hiked up to the fire tower and back from greenwood furnace state park rather than completing the entire loop. The hike up and back was about 6mi (took about 2 hours to hike up and 1 hour down). The way up was very strenuous and rocky and we had to stop a few times, but the view from the top was very worth it and even better after we climbed the fire tower. Cool trail- Highly recommend.

Really nice hike done clockwise from the visitor's center. Good workout on the ascent and a nice midway rest-stop at the fire tower. We did the trail 'as mapped' today, but in future will probably hang a right on the 'Spencer Trail' on the way down and descend back on the Greenwood spur to cut out Rag Hollow Road (just personal preference... would prefer the trail to a gravel road with cars and a number of cabins).

Loved this trail - great workout on the way up. Firetower is closed. The 'telephone' trail on the way back down was lovely and interesting - lots of great history in the area.

Consider hiking up Ruff Gap if you like tougher ascents: Greenwood Spur/Standing Stone, R on Spencer, L up Ruff Gap, down Standing Stone/Spur trail. (I did this modified route by accident—not bad)

This is a really nice hike. We only did the first half from the lake up to the tower and then back the same way. The trail is clearly marked, even when using gravel roads, its well marked for when you get back on.
