Turn off of Mountain Road onto an unmarked, unpaved state gameland road (there is a sign that says "Not Maintained in the Winter"), drive a short distance up this bumpy road to the gate where there is a small area to park. Hike from there on the gated-off road to the Tuscarora trail. Turn left on the Tuscarora trail to get to the intersection with the AT and Darlington trails. If you take the AT to the right you will come down to the Cumberland overlook. The section of the Tuscarora trail is not used very much and is overgrown with a lot of poison ivy - long pants and covered shoes recommended. Due to this being on state gameland, it is recommended to wear bright orange if hiking during hunting season.

The road and the Tuscarora trail are not well maintained for hiking and are a bit overgrown. There were too many bugs and too much poison ivy for my hiking preference. The AT is much better maintained and was much more enjoyable to hike on. The upside, is there were not many other hikers. At the Cumberland Valley Overlook there is a nice rock seating area to rest and enjoy the view.
